Hello everyone - as you can probably guess, I'm new here - but today, I'd like to demonstrate one or two TV ident reproductions I carved:

This is what I imagine BSB to look like in today's standard 16:9 widescreen, had the need for a merger not arisen. If you look closely, you can see I rebuilt the diamond logos purely from scratch, to every degree - although I tried some transparency on the P (of The Power Station ) and the N (of Now ) - the result was a thin messy white border. Ooops! The background specifically derives from the VCI video ident - nothing personal, only I wanted to try it out on this slide.

Thoughts?

Well I've always thought that the system BSB used allowed the channels to have individual brands whilst still looking part of a wider organisation, by using the same shape and having the BSB logo in the bottom right corner; so you (hopefully!) can't go wrong when using them in mocks.

This is great, I'd like to see more ideas based on the design.

That's a pretty faithful mock.

Ironically, D-MAC, the transmission system used by BSB was capable of broadcasting in 16:9 widescreen and HD-MAC was developed as early as 1992. For an analogue system, It did actually offer some pretty good picture quality had an edge compared to similar PAL pictures at the time.

What didn't help was that Astra was able to use PAL and it's widespread elsewhere use pretty much sealed the fate of D-MAC (and D2-MAC which fixed a few issues with the first system) and of course the development of DVB meant its days were numbered anyway.

All I will say is that the Power Station logo had a white background in the 'P' gap.

Other than that, very well done, I was a big fan of BSB's identity, the squarial being very versatile. Good luck with it, I would like to see this progress.

Ha! I particularly like the "Star Trek: Phase II" - a reference to the show that never was (it became Star Trek the Motion Picture), and TNG was built from its sets.

Thanks for the comments all! Since this slide, I've started thinking of how the diamonds would look for the Sky channels - I'll start sketching out a few, see how they work.
