Asian Dream is superb... great work.

I have reservations about the News titles, It certainly is bold, but I feel somewhat jarring.

Every time you post music on Youtube you improve it really is a pleasure to watch.

Asian Dream is superb, but I'm undecided on the titles music. The titles are cut well to the music, it certainly has a punch, and it sounds like something they could use, but the chords on the strings jar, IMO. Otherwise, it's good.

All in all, superb, though.

His countdown track for BBC News is what made me want to be both a newsreader when I was younger, and a musician as I grew up. It's weird for such an obscure thing to have so much influence, but in a sense I owe everything to David Lowe. I became obsessed with that track, and then other TV tracks... and then I wanted to write music for TV... and then I did. It shifted me from taking biology to choosing music... the contrast is extraordinary.

Honestly, I don't think you are the only one. Thanks to David and the BBC News music I got my interest in television and now a career in it. I'm writing this from Alaska working on a high rated Discovery Channel show and having a fantastic time, all because I heard that 90seconds of countdown 13 years ago.

Anyhoo, amazing audio mocks, love both of them and would very much like to hear any other you might have made in the past.

Can I just say, wow?

Asian Dream is in my opinion the outstanding track on the BBC World The Music CD and when I pop it on later I think I won't be able to hear it in the same way again. Thanks for making me try to hear things that aren't there in reality! Smile Smile Smile

Congratulations, 100/10

I don't think that's something we can fault David Lowe on - he has proven with World News Today/America, GMT and The Hub that he can taken the music in different directions but the 2008 brief was "back to basics". I think the move to Broadcasting House should come with some new ideas with music, but retaining the fundamental elements, similar to what has been done here.

With the titles piece, I would make the ending a little more dramatic. The opening also wouldn't quite work as the heavy bass wouldn't be easily mixed into the headline bed, unless you had different ideas of how the bulletin would be opened, in which case ignore me.

Superb though!!!

Totally agree. He always manages to refresh the music, just when you think it's reached a pinnacle and nothing more can be done... he goes right ahead and does it.

I hadn't given the titles that much thought, if I'm honest - but you're right. I think if I maybe built the strings up a little more, maybe increased the velocity as they went along, that might help. I'll post a new version in a few days! And thank you! Cool

Thank you! I've been listening to the titles track on repeat for quite a while now, aside from it driving me slightly mad I think I can fix it.

And that means so much... thank you - it's nice to know that someone is actually listening haha.

Really interesting twist on the titles piece, both chords in major key instead of the usual minor > major - a surprising change, very good indeed! Smile

Cheers Paul! Glad you enjoyed it. Smile

Thanks Critique! I did a sneaky iMovie edit of them, I hadn't originally made the titles to go with any video, I just did them on a whim... and so they didn't really fit perfectly. I'll post a new version of the titles in a couple of days. Very Happy

Wow. That's the power of music explained in a paragraph. Congratulations by the way... that's some serious 'follow your dreams' business. And thanks! I'll dig around, I'm terrible at naming my files so it might take a while to find some Lowe recreations.

Haha, why thank you. I heard the track forever and a day ago, and then somehow (the wonders of the human brain) it popped into my head a couple of months back and I knew I had to re-create it. The original version, as brilliant as it is - was a bit too slow for me, I'm always mentally trying to speed it up.

You're welcome Wink

Both tracks posted are superb, the first a very faithful reproduction and the second reminiscent of the 2006/7 package, which I know wasn't universally admired but I remain particularly fond of.

I could imagine the latter accompanying a News 24 Tonight-style programme.
