BBC Rebrand Concept

Branched from the initial thread it was revealed in

The BBC have been a prevailing British company for god knows how long.

You all should know that their branding at the moment is a little bit of a mess.

Heavily inspired by a friend's concept, I've taken it upon myself to try and refresh the BBC, and bring it all in line.

- - - -

We begin with the star of the show, the corporation's main logo.

*

A more simple take on what's come before - with some references mixed in.

- - - -

A combination of the current logo and previous slanted logo makes up the DNA of this new mark - with some added Reith.

*

- - - -

Now come the brands.

A logo system was made so that everything could be brought back in line.

*

In the case of BBC Three, I felt like the brand was already established, so there wasn't much changed.

- - - -

Remove the BBC letters, and you get the "small-use" versions:

*

Useful for things like the DOG.

- - - -

*

As stated before, the whole thing shares a logo system that can be modified to fit the project.

- - - -

"Here is the news..."

*

- - - -

*

The regions aren't left out.

- - - -

I figured that the kids brands were too recognizable at this point, so all they could do is just add the new BBC logo.

*

- - - -

Now the online stuff.

I thought it would be interesting to rename iPlayer.

*

Nothing really changes here - just the name.

- - - -

The radio gets the refresh, too. BBC Sounds.

*

Here come the locals...

*

- - - -

So there you go.

An attempt at unifying, to an extent, the BBC identity.

*

You probably want to know how this would look on screen.

...That's something I haven't really dabbled into, so this was a first for me.

and because of how in-experienced I was in that area, I was only able to make three pieces as of writing all this.

For starters, a cross-channel promo showcasing the day's programs.

*

- - - -

BBC Two needs no explanation - just replace the current logo with the new one.

*

[i used a screen cap from the process reel for this]

- - - -

Lastly, the title graphic for BBC News at 1.

*

I had to grab an image off of one of MDTA's BBC News gallery posts for the "big swirly globe thing"....

[sorry martin! Razz ]

- - - -

That seems like everything!

I'm interested to see what you all think of this, and as the usual will be - opinions welcome, have at me.

I love this!

I thank you, but I'm pretty sure you didn't have to put an "Outstanding" rating.

I don't see myself at that rank. Very Happy

A brilliant mock. I love how the DNA from the past and now come together for the logo. It reminds me of the 1997 BBC look, bringing (most) of the brands together with similar logos for TV and Radio (only this time in colour!) and could definitely see this on TV.

5/5 (although I put 4).
Television is my passion.

Hmm.

I like the fact you've tried to 'unify' it all and I like it to an extent.

I do feel, however, that the shadows you've used make it look a bit naff, e.g. on the dots and 'Today' here:

*

I also think a plain white background is to be avoided. Looks more like you just haven't bothered putting a background on than minimalism to me. Perhaps, if you're looking for a very plain background, use a light grey or something, just so it looks like there's something there?

I think at smaller sizes, the 'C' with the three dots looks very busy and not especially pleasing. See here:

*

I don't know what you could do about that if you're set on having the three dots emerging from the second 'C' in this way except perhaps reducing the size of the squares perhaps, or having the squares begin further right so there's less of the 'three dots' inside the 'C'.

It's interesting, and it's certainly a different look for BBC, and I appreciate that you've tried to use the best bits of the past (e.g. the blue/red/green colouring from the slanted logo era) in a more modern way, but something about those dots doesn't sit right with me.
Guess who's big in the back time!

I’m happy to see you continue this idea and expand upon it, the main corporate logo shows promise and as others have said, I like that you’ve paid respect to the past while bringing the brand forward. I like the use of the colours in the boxes but bringing BBC out of the box, I don’t know if the lettering is too thin but when it comes to incorporating the logo into the channels it feels quite flat. I like BBC Play, it may just be the fact that the logo works when you can see it in its glory but when it’s smaller it doesn’t stand out as much.

I don’t think it helps that the BBC Three logo is the only one that shows any sign of personality, I understand if you’re looking to unify the channels but I don’t know if I’m sold on the current presentation.

This is definitely something I’m excited to see continue so good luck and I can’t wait to see what you do next!

The logos are much nicer without the BBC text.

Strongly not a fan of the three dots unfortunately, gives off a very dated 90s feel IMO. I think the colour and font selections for each channel/service could be improved all round too, and the menu needs to be developed further.

However, I think this mock does show the BBC letters can effectively sit outside of the traditional ‘blocks’, and Reith looks rather good in this aspect.

Overall a lot to improve IMO, but a solid starting point for a ‘block less’ BBC brand image.

I like the three dot motif - I think it's an interesting change and the channel logos sans text are refreshing. They remind me of some of the Australian channels.

The Three logo is the most effective because it has personality, and that's my main issue with the other logos. The formula is great and essentially good to go, but I'd like to see the specific channels have their own flair. But News looks fab, CBeebies with the new logo works well, and I like the colour you've chosen for Two.

Great work overall!
