Below are mock designs of the BBC Online channel websites in 2011 based on the channels and channel identities that existed in 2000.

BBC ONE : http://up.metropol247.co.uk/052011/1304806157_33465477.png
BBC TWO : http://up.metropol247.co.uk/052011/1304806156_961430261.png
BBC Choice : http://up.metropol247.co.uk/052011/1304806156_991925155.png
BBC Knowledge : http://up.metropol247.co.uk/052011/1304806156_926588613.png

For BBC ONE I have put in place the old Gill Sans 'ONE' logo and replaced the background with the balloon design (freely available on the TV Forum requests forum).

I've lined up the 'BBC' logo, the channel name and the 'Home' button so it feels more consistent.

On BBC TWO are the least modifications, the Gill Sans 'TWO' returns and I've capitalised the name on both ONE and TWO as I think the sentence case 'One' and 'Two' look awkward as text. Also, giving the two main channels all caps names distinguishes them mentally as the main channels, whereas Choice and Knowledge are just secondary channels for ONE and TWO, or that's what I was thinking anyway.

Choice is essentially the same as 'Three', I have however given a show from that era a spot on the homepage to make it feel more realistic. Knowledge at this time was sort of becoming what Four is today, hence the similar identity it still has on its site.

They're not completely original, but I hope you enjoy them. Smile

Apart from the BBC One one, they don't really feel reminiscent of the brands of the time.

BBC Two had moved away from strong use of viridian by 2000, with only a couple of the original batch of idents left in use.

BBC Choice was on the other hand a lot less colourful. If we're going by the June 2000 refresh, you need one pastel colour (the blue used would be fine) but no other.

I don't know if BBC Knowledge was using its original identity package or its final one in 2000, but either way they don't fit. The former featured strong use of sandy colours, and the latter felt sciencey/earthy.

I do like the BBC One one though. Who doesn't love the balloons?!

It's supposed to be elements of 2011 mixed in with the elements of 2000. Smile

Yeah I get that but in the case of the latter 3 it seems more present branding with old logo/name.

Mmmm, I agree. This feels more like 'I've discovered the debug feature of my web browser' than anything else - sorry.

No it's fine, it tells me to work more on it in the future. All comments are appreciated, whether they're downright evil, or downright nice. Smile

And by the way, I've known about the debug feature for a long time. Wink Razz

Thanks again.

I thought it was a Firebug mock. I think the BBC One mock is the best, with BBC Two, Choice and Knowledge looking more like changes of logo. For Choice, I'd suggest changing the background, and assuming that it is supposed to be in the old design, tone the colours down to the Choice palette, and make it less 'In your face', even if that is very BBC Three. The timeline of what's on now/next and later is an unfortunate happening, isn't it? BBC Choice - 7 Family Guy episodes coming up, a great selection/choice of programming.

That was the schedule for Three the other night.
