Are the pics slow loading for anyone else, even on fibre?

Glad you've had a go at the election though - I was wondering how that might look, and once I can see the lower thirds I'll comment on them.
I preferred the internet when it had a sense of humour.

Very nice work.
Although I do think that this background is a little busy.

The background was inspired by The Campaign (BBC Scotland's run up to the election programme), but I imagine it could still work without the larger particles. (Hope you noticed the little 'live' aspect of the background... if you can spot it Very Happy)

Yeah, they are full sized and there's 41 of them, but I wanted to give the best quality, I could have a look a reducing the quality slightly. (I had a few problems with Metropol last night anyway so I had to re-upload the last half as they wouldn't display on the post when I added the links)

Just intrigued if it is an issue for anyone else - they're only 100mb or so all together so really shouldn't be an issue on fibre but just not getting there for me. What I have seen is very nice though.

OK, had to download to view but they were worth it. I'm assuming the AR efforts were what BBC Scotland actually did with their superior looking election night effort - whether it was you or them, they really do deserve commending. Better than Sky's effort IMO.

I do think though your split flipper is a mistake - you've admittedly relegated the key information to just part of the flipper and really that is something which should be quick to view at a glance, so as nice as flipping through the parties is it doesn't really work IMO. I'm not keen on the boxes within the flipper too - think they need to be full height IMO.

I'd have thought it could sit above the flipper either by restricting the length of the text in the astons or moving up screen BBC reith style when it needs to. Otherwise maybe a column above the election logo would work.

One of the reasons I was wondering how this style would work for the elections is that watching the BBC coverage made me wonder if the requirements of an election might be a reason they didn't go for it nationwide. For once the BBC graphics actually seemed to work and with stats they tend to need to be boxed neatly and be very ordered so that they do work on screen. I think it's a bit trickier to achieve with the more freestyle approach of The Nine.

Ultimately though I'm just picking here - overall it's one of the best executed designs we've seen on the Gallery.

Thank you,

The AR is theirs, I just included it to flow with the timeline I had through the pictures.

Of course the declarations being shown is important. Maybe what would be a better idea is that during the period until the first declaration, the split version is used with the days other headlines being shown and the smaller portion showing the exit poll considering not much is happening outside of the build up at this point, then once the first declaration is in, that's when the full sized version comes into play with just the results (as shown in the first two pictures after the exit poll).

I quite like that the boxes aren't the full height of the flipper as otherwise I feel they'd make the flipper look like segments rather than a whole line (but that's just me trying to visualise it). But the column idea could work.
