I'm new here to TV Forum, and I've made mocks on Powerpoints, but then I found out how to use fireworks and got to the use of the simples, I've made a start of this mock for the BBC News, should I continue?
Are the first two images the titles or demonstrating the logo design?
Any particular reason for the BBC One-style logo lock up? That style of layout doesn't lend itself to scaling, which I suspect is why the BBC logo has gone missing in your aston image?
I don't understand why the 'N' is red and slightly taller than 'EWS'; why is that necessary and would it work on screen?
Straps - don't like the drop shadow or the font. No thought given to alignment. 'News' looks misplaced and odd without the BBC logo. You haven't adhered to safe areas. The ticker text would be better all caps and smaller in comparison to the main strap text.
My suggestion would be to research the current BBC News package and those previous, see how yours stacks up and look for ways to improve it from there. Great mocks have come from Powerpoint but they are in the minority. You may wish to try more powerful graphic design software discussed here.

I've tried to make the N stand out, but didn't seem to work too well.
I was just playing around with the straps, and though this looked good in Fireworks, I realised that too that the shadow didn't look to good either too be honest myself! I saw the font and thought it looked good, until you two pointed it out and said it looked too 'Calibri' and realised that too! I'll have another look and try to improve it. I've found this 'http://tv-live.org.uk/wp/index.php/bbc/bbc-news/bbc-news-channel/2008-present/' which I think would be a good BBC News package to look at, I suppose? I'll upload a image soon of the PPT mock that I've made, but it hasn't looked too exciting.
PPT Mock
I'll start making the changes on my Fireworks mock now! Thank you, keep the feedback coming

Little sample of graphics
Feedback? Any changes I could do?
What is the font name for the Scrolling news headlines at the bottom?, I can't get What the Font to work. It is almost like the BBC One font.
Welcome to the forums! Your mock is okay, you've payed attention to TV safe areas and the like, but it just has that powerpoint feel that makes things look not very good. Get rid of the bevels and the shadows, and it would look better.
First one:
Scrap the Astons they are aweful. The logo needs a bit of thought.
Second one:
There are a couple of things you need to do... stop using Powerpoint, keep an eye on the alignment of your elements, the colours you are using (grey text on red background bad), and SAFE AREAS.
*awful. I know you called me a spelling nazi last time, so sorry, Phil!
ggggrrrrr <-- is that spelt correctly mein Führer?
Why you rooning thu flow of dis thread with you stoopid spellin correcshuns? I cun spell good... jus sumtimes put extral letterss inn? Duz that mek mee an aweful persin?
I don't get the hatred for Powerpoint... Your powerpoint mock is of a much better quality than your Fireworks based one, and I would seriously recommend you stick with Powerpoint until you've practiced your Fireworks skills to get them to a similar level of quality.
The only thing which lets your Powerpoint mock down is the overuse of the default bevels. But that said, I could actually imagine similar looking graphics on BBC News. The layout of certain elements on the other hand (like the clock)...
There have been good mocks on here before done with a piece of paper and a pencil. Use software you're comfortable with - it's ideas that are more important than graphical finese. If you've got a bad idea, no amount of amazing graphics work will improve it, whereas you can probably communicate a good idea using the spray paint tool in Paint!
It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1." In other words, Godwin observed that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably makes some comparison to Hitler and the Nazis.
