Not really too keen on it myself. The border doesn't really work in my opinion and I don't really like the font choice.
That said, the animation that you've recreated is good and I did like that.

I like it, but I would change a couple of things:
- stop changing the text every 3 seconds (I would've preferred if the date was included WITH their names, not separate and not 3 seconds later.)

It's a 3/5 from me, because this looks decent, and would probably work on screen. But, it probably needs a little bit of tweeking before it makes it to air. The headline slugs should be one line really rather than 2, but it mostly works pretty well.
As a stylistic choice, I rather like the 2 line headline text. Reminds me of ABC News (the Australian one).
