Trying to find a new image (June 2011)

So with BBC News moving to Broadcasting house next year, I wanted to try & find a new look for the service. These are just some endboards for now, but I'll develop them more if I get positive feedback.

This is inspired by the swirls era, but with a new look. The titles would be one entire shot, with the logo forming and then the next appearing. place names would swirl around and change as in 1999. Continents drift across as well. I wanted to simplify how the logo/programme name was displayed, which was inspired by a previous mock on this site.

A new theme would be written, based on the current David Lowe compositions, but orchestrated rather than made digitally - a much more powerful brand, with individual themes for each programme/channel... but all similar, with a tag like World has.

Time would still play an important part, shown in the 6 O'clock & news channel titles - which would show the time at the top of the hour, rather than just BBC News, making the channel seem more current and pacey.

Anyway, constructive feedback would be appreciated.

They look great, just the Breakfast ones that don't seem warm enough!

They're okay. The Breakfast one is too dark and I think that globe looking like an eye is a bit sinister.

For the most part, I think these are very nice. I'd agree that the Breakfast one doesn't seem warm enough, though. Also, whilst the date on the endboard is good for Breakfast, I don't think it works as well for the News channel one.

There's something not quite right with the 'NEWS' letter spacing, and the BBC logo placing. Also the date should be a tiny bit further down.

I like the idea of it showing the actual time... however that could provide more of an embarrasment for the BBC rather than see as a marvel. I'm just imagining the people complaining about how the BBC are so late for the News or someone saying they were four seconds late for the titles today etc etc.

Reminds me of the 1992 News at Ten.

It looks familiar. I'm sure someone made a BBC News mock a couple of years ago featuring a pink globe on a grey background?

I also think the eye thing is quite sinister.

Yes it is a bit, I'd remove the black spot in the middle...

...also he is the person who did the "pink globe on a grey background".

Okay so, updated versions of Breakfast & the generic endboards without the 'eye' which I hadn't really thought of as that.

Should I continue?

It was Dan Gooding's last BBC News mock!

I like it, but I can't help but feel it's too much of a departure, then again, change is a good thing.

I'd think some set integration like 1993 would be nice.

I've just noticed the gradient on the BBC logo.

Please, never, ever , use gradients on the BBC logo! You shouldn't use different colours other than black or white either, but that was thrown out years ago.

I still hate gradients on the logo though.

Fantastic stuff - the Breakfast one is definitely an improvement. Things I notice are:

- The 'NEWS' or 'BREAKFAST' text - the glossy effect looks odd somehow

- I like the idea of a clock with the minute and hour, but I think personally it would look nicer if the numbers didn't go right to the edge of the screen, this could be solved by reducing the character spacing. And if there is no clock, move the text and line to further across so there is no blank space.

- As Mike W said some studio integration would be nice - perhaps as the the titles end, a wide shot of the studio is shown behind the title background, but slightly opaque. I know a studio isn't necessarily part of this mock however.

Other than those niggly points, fantastic stuff!
