Ideas for clean modern on-screen graphics for the BBC News branding in HD (January 2013)

I wouldn't say it's squashed together, nor that the designs with gaps between the elements make the text hard to read in any way - I have no problems reading them myself... It may be the downsizing?

I note though, most of the designs there haven't tried a full screen width lower third; from the new recreation I actually think it could look very nice.

The thought I had when doing the designs was use as little space as needed, because with HD you don't need to fill the screen with straps and tickers lol.

Yes... I guess that's fine. I was giving the aesthetic priority over that HD efficiency, you might say; text in small boxes generally have never been quite as pleasing on my eyes as longer straps.

But I know where you're coming from, and I can't really fault the execution at all from that point; it's top notch.

I like the idea of not having full length straps but when put against the ticker it doest look all that great. Maybe add a gap like on sky news?

I have ideas with the gaps. Its also worth remembering that these straps are not always visible

Martin, i've already rated this mock highly, yet knowing that you are capable of some amazing things I cant help thinking that this is a waste of your time.

I'd love to see a scratch designed set of titles for one of the World News programmes that arent getting new titles, such as GMT or Newsday, or perhaps even a 'What If The Hub had not been axed' set of titles.

In a bit of a lull at the moment, these were only meant to be a small distraction, but blew up a little bit. Once the new look has launched, and settled, I may do a recreation or something.

Thats unfortunate. Hopefully you'll get out of that lull soon and we'll see some more amazing animations.

I love how the BBC world news logo has no red background when there are no graphics being shown Very Happy
