Whilst technically excellent I have to say I think they look horrid. The white versions of the 2000 idents simply do not work. I suspect this is due to the lack of the grey tripe which shows just how much white space there is around the main graphic, something far less noticeable when it uses a colour.
I still am unsure about the 2008 package as a whole. I think the overuse of white on screen makes it seem washed out and poor, especially on TVs with not fantastic contrast ratios. Before the other half's telly exploded he had an aging CRT in his main room and pure white really didn't agree with it. I also feel the sheer number of things occurring on screen at once, seemingly with no relation to one another just end up looking distracting.
If you allow me to take off my normal pants and pull my design consultant stocking over my head: surely one of the concepts behind all the items on screen could be showing how all news is in some way interconnected. Seemingly irrelevant things all being brought together with the BBC showing the fuller picture. Indeed when I first saw the version that was leaked to me I expected this to be the last frame, yet instead it didn't seem to have a proper form up. Just another section of mess.
If their plan was to show the whole world is just a crock of shi+e that doesn't work however I applaud them.
And all that aside, I rather like the version of the 2008 titles with the ivory background. So maybe its just a colour preference after all. What a racist I appear to be.
Also I miss the decoding placenames.

I prefer the rather bold and clean 2008 graphics, particularly more than the 1999-2000 look. I hadn't realised how messy the cream and red look was till I actually made attempts at recreating it.
The weird 3D ovals are a little pointless IMO, other than to provide some contrast to the cream. Half in focus globes overlapping etc.
