BBC Breakfast Titles Concept

What a longer opener for Breakfast could look like (June 2019)

Hi everyone,

This is something that I've thought about for a while and I've finally executed it.

I've compiled the five 06:00 hour openers for BBC Breakfast into one sequence.

As it is a longer sequence, I've used the closing music as it fits well and sounds better than the opening music.

Four of them are short and snappy, but long enough to see on screen, the fifth and final opener is the normal length and I've chroma key-ed it so that the wipe looks natural.

BBC News Countdown obtained from YouTube.
BBC Breakfast GFX obtained from James Mobbs' Vimeo.

I hope that you find the wipes transition well.

Looking forward to receiving feedback!

In my opinion it works very well. The transitions are seamless and the timing between cuts is perfect. Great job!

Completely disagree. The timing is completely out. It looked wrong on first view, so I loaded it up and had a look. When you have a clear beat to the audio, you need to match that with your pictures. The cuts in the title sequence not only don't line up with the beats, but they don't even come in a regular pattern.

*

The top row of keyframes (diamond shapes for those who don't know after effects) is the beat of the music. The bottom row of diamonds is the first frame of each shot. As you can clearly see, there's not even a regular cadence to the changes of shot.

I've taken the liberty of adjusting the cuts to match the audio, which looks like this and, IMHO, much nicer

Great, thank you for this.

I shall take this onboard and re-edit the video!

The re-edited version is excellent. Far far better than the current look.

I’d perhaps use less shots though and get them to change every two pips rather than every one. It’d make it less busy and you’d have longer to appreciate each shot.

Not sure if this is an appropriate place to post, but I've edited the title theme a bit, adding a build before the acceleration part of the theme. I've also changed the main "logo" of the theme to a shorter edition, so as to allow the headline bed to be transitioned more smoothly when the "logo" ends. If this works, I think it would be a great addition to your titles mock/concept.

It’s a nice idea and the end product isn’t awful, but it certainly doesn’t give the impression very much time was spent on it (in a similar way to the other mock you posted which I assume you’ve deleted).
