I know that Newsline is probably not the studio at the top of the BBC's new set program but seeing as both the other nationals have just got a new set and quite frankly Newsline's studio is just odd I though that I'd get at trying to design a Set for their Studio to include all of BBC Northern Ireland's News, Politics and Sport output. This studio will be used for Newsline, Sunday Politics Northern Ireland, The View, Stormont Today, Final Score NI, The Irish League Show and a hypothetical Newsnight Northern Ireland Studio.

The Belfast Studio is a good sized studio being larger than Cardiff and the same size as BBC Scotland's Studio without a stupid column in the middle of the studio. Given the space you can create a good sized set modelled on Studio B in NBH.

Here is the original design

Here are a few unrendered caps (Renders to follow post-criticism)

Can't really fault your mocks at all, but similarly can't get too excited by them either due to the generic nature of it all.

I understand you're trying to follow the BBC rules and show what could be done, but might be interesting to see if you could bend those rules a little bit and do something a bit unique to BBC NI without straying from the generic branding - or interpret it in a slightly different way.

Or heck, this a mocks forum - would love to see some of the more talents mockers just ripping up the rule book and giving us their interpretation of what Newsline or any other BBC or ITV region might look like today if everything wasn't so generic.

Here is a render of the Studio - A tad grainy, I've given it a red and yellow look rather than red and white as the predominant colours in the Newsline titles are red and yellow and it also gives it a sense of individuality away from the main bulletins.

Interestingly the preview in the renderer is less grainy so maybe next time I'll just print screen that.

That is actually very impressive, could you maybe not include the mangled cardboard people though? Seems a shame to spoil the work and it's pretty obvious where the presenters would go.

Thanks, I include the cardboard people to give a sense of size and lighting but I'd happily not include them next time.

Anyone who wants to look around the set is now free to, here is the SketchUp file.

Brilliant thanks. I've finally managed to work out how to use lighting properly in Maxwell from your model as well.

Wow! Looking around it on a sketchup file - You've included the tiniest details like putting lighting behind the screens in the Main presentation area

But what is this... * Is it there to make it look like there is a 'Catwalk' behind the presenter and guests?

Well Done! Keep up the excellent work

It's simply just a design thing, like the one in Studio B that has no actual purpose so it's just floor paint in that shape.
