I prefer the glowing blocks personally, I know that they weren’t your design but I feel like that is an update of the brand which looks fresh and (slightly) more modern but allows you to update the other brands under the umbrella. The joined together boxes just don’t feel like an advancement for me - it’s just a bit like - how do we keep it the same but different? Oh yeah, push the boxes together.

I'm in favour of the glowing blocks.
It gives the BBC that much-needed warm and friendly tone, rather than cold and serious.

Yeah, question is: how would it look on its brands (TV channels, radio, ect.)?
Ahh, the joys of TV.

Have the glow colours match the brand colours?
Like for BBC One, have a dark red background, the glow surrounding the blocks can be a bright red.
Then you get a nice colour contrast between dark and light.

Nice suggestions. Smile

Anyways, since the "glowing blocks" suggestion's been getting some buzz, I've managed to pull off my own take on it:

BiggieSMLZ,

Looks fine, however - and I know that I'm going to sound like a broken record having previously referred to your use of strong shadows in your designs - I think, again, that your work would be improved by just taking a step back and toning things down a touch.

If you take a look at Brioalex's collection of ideas on the previous page, you'll notice how subtle the glow effect is and how well it works as a design. I'm not suggesting you merely copy someone else's work but I'm trying to give you a relevant example of how the notion of 'less is more' can be your friend.

For me, lessen the stark glow, and you'll start to see a more visually appealing logo off the back of it.
Guess who's big in the back time!

Good point. That glow was a bit intense, admittedly. I've just fixed it as much as I can. Smile

I have been playing with this logo throughout the day, and I've been reinventing the BBC's brands with it. In attempt to keep things more in balance, I figured I could just use the main logo (glowing blocks) as the corporate logo, and in certain situations (eg. BBC Studios), while for the remaining brands, in an effort to keep things 2D and metro-styled, I've figured I could do without the glow.

While the less intense colours work better, I think another problem of your use of shadows (and not just here, but before in previous parts) is the blur of the shadow isn't enough. If the distance of the shadow is short then it doesn't look as good, but if the distance is increased then it fades out better

Hmm... Good point. At least I know how shadows and glows work now. Wink

Of course, in terms of the on-screen graphics (which are already underway), I’ve been attempting to shift away from stuff that involves shadows.

Sorry but it still looks naff, looks dated before you've even begun.

I really rate this though, if you're going to make a change then really make a change!

I wanted it to be like Alexbrio's idea, so unfortunately, my rating's gone down to 1

Understandable.

Well, I'm gonna need a few days to replace the wordmark concept with the new blocks concept on the on-screen graphics before the thread goes live, so yeah, I'm in no rush to get it done. This should give me enough time to get the glow effect to a suitable level and see how this second concept as a whole can work.
Ahh, the joys of TV.
