The logo you had on the first page of this mock was so much better than what you have now.

That, we can both agree on. I personally liked my first incarnation better because y’know, it started it all. During the second phase of this mock, I’ve learned a few lessons, so I guess the next move would be to go back to square one (pun intended) and blend some of the changes from the rectangle design to see if that fits, in a Rai-style move.
Ahh, the joys of TV.

We now interrupt this mock to join Biggie's Mock Laboratory...

I am proudly experimenting with square one again, and I am now heeding previous advice on the positioning flaws, so that both the size of the logo text and channel text are the same. I have explored the option of making it rounded too. To me, that looks more fair and balanced than the first time I dropped that idea. Hopefully this should bring this mock roaring back to life one way or another, combined with the recent improvements of the rectangular logo style.

This has turned from really interesting and promising to really boring. The logo change has killed the concept I'm afraid.

i think it's time for a refresh for the bbc

Another logo change? Shocked Good point. Well, If I were to do that, I might either use the square again, but rounder, with the channel names as the same size as the logo text (a bit like Rai in Italy or something), or just use circles in place of blocks. If not, I might just keep fighting to get the right concept to save this mock from spiralling downward.

Yes, Rai is a good example of how a square can work. Glad you're looking back at that, though maybe with a new BBC logo you need to do what was done in 1997 and keep all the channel logos uniformed too in the same font.

Good point. That's exactly what I'm trying to pull off, you can see in that hidden BTS shot.

I'm also looking into the idea of doing what I can with current mock (I could also make the square rounder to fit with the times), while I might do another, much better one in the autumn/fall, which might see me trying out the "blocks" concept - I could do a summer mock and an autumn mock in the same year, or do a new mock annually. An actual fact to boost my morale: I've got an established history of trying to incorporate Reith into the main logo.

For those wondering how Rai looked both in the past and nowadays:

That first Rai4 logo looks awful. So garish.

I actually prefer the middle column of logos (logos before the most recent refresh) in that image. Looks neat with the number inside the box.
Guess who's big in the back time!

Yes, the middle column works well, both with the numerals in the box and the text. Not so sure about the right - the numerals certainly look worse and having two fonts looks like they're competing against each other, which is why I think sticking to the one is probably best.

I decided to do my own take on this again - and the only way I can explain it is a combination of this, Rai's branding, and the classic Gill Sans rebrand of yore.

Take this as you will.

It could do with some color, but on balance, that looks pretty good.

Yeah, balance was the main focus here, I didn't even bother coloring it Very Happy
