Celebrating the BBC's centenary with a stronger identity.

Anyway, time for the grand reveal, people! That of course is, as promised... the idents!

Let's start off with BBC One, shall we? For this set, I've conceived the theme of "Personification", which involves a (mostly) two-dimensional, red and white world, which depicts various objects and situations in the form of the BBC One logo. Sunrise (shown here on the top left) would serve as a generic ident, used to introduce the news and serious programming. Microwave Popcorn (shown here on the top right) could be used to introduce a wide variety of programmes. Pong (pictured here on the bottom left) could be used as an ident to introduce sports programming. Lastly, Piano (shown here on the bottom right) would in two versions: one that would play a piano rendition of the Hippos ident from the "Circles" set, and another that would play a piano rendition of the Capoeira ident from the "Rhythm and Movement" set.

*

In BBC Two's case, I've decided to keep the 2018 "Curve" idents. In this case, the BBC Two logo would appear three seconds into the ident. Similar to what happened in 1997 with the 1991 set, some idents could be withdrawn, with some new ones being introduced. Here they are: (in clockwise - Captivating, Escapist, Wonder, Feel Good)
*

Lastly, BBC Four. For this batch, I've decided to make things a bit more bright. By that, I've come up with what I would like to call an "Ident Randomization System", which sees the BBC Four logo intergrated into several design variations, like these four variations below. Similar to ITV2, these sequences would be assembled on broadcast, allowing for around a hundred thousand combinations.

BBC One's have been done before with Sky One and Carlton.

I don't feel that BBC Four’s fit the channel.

I think keeping the BBC Two presentation the same is smart because honestly it’s the best Two has ever looked and it’s modern. Four feels a bit ITV4 for me with the variants, I get more ‘action’ and ‘comedy’ than arts and culture from these idents.

I think One would’ve been good if it’s wasn’t so similar to Sky One. I also think that it either needs to be a red and white colour combo or red and grey. I would recommend having red as the dominant colour. As always though I love seeing this project develop.

Well, thanks for the feedback! Now, I know that BBC One's idents are very similar in style to Sky One, and BBC Four's don't quite fit the channel as it should. To be fair, BBC One was pretty easy to conceive, but I was torn, really on how BBC Four's idents should play out.

In the meantime, I've brightened the logos for BBC News and its related services, to the 2013 color scheme. The funny thing is this: The brightness varies depending on what device it's on, so on most displays, it's more brown than red, admittedly. Here's the adjustment:

To cap off, having learned that capitals are more effective in terms of the lower thirds, I'm improving as I speak on my news pres again, with the following sage advice:
I think the flipper text needs to be all capitals in order to be effective, as it looks smaller than it is in standard case.

So far, It looks by far impressive, and I'm expected to show you guys that next.

Love the BBC Two selection but that's basically a slight upgrade on the already amazing presentation. Not impressed with either of the BBC One or Four designs. For BBC One, it doesn't stand out enough for the main BBC channel. However the same could be said orf the awful Oneness idents/films. BBC 2 is fair superior.

I've managed to improve a bit further on the on-screen graphics, in terms of BBC News stuff. Here, The headlines and lower thirds are now back to uppercase, and the color is now more red. as I pointed out earlier. I consider this a fusion of the 2008, 2013, and 2019 styles. Here they are:

As a bonus, I made a small glimpse of how a TOTH countdown could look like. Here, I've focused on "mirror images", so you can see the news gathering from different angles.

I'm back.

I have a couple of more graphics to drop, and to start off, seeing as BBC Parliament's on-screen graphics (not countining the idents) is so outta line in comparison with the other BBC News stuff, I've designed some Reithed-up lower thirds.

*

And also, I've done an ident for said channel.

To cap off, Here's something I've longed to post: A new logo for all in-house BBC productions - through BBC Studios of course. This logo is animated, and has its own music (A rising electric guitar riff, promptly followed by a dramatic electronic synth with an echo effect), The animation is as goes: The camera zooms out of the first "B" of the BBC logo, shrouded in darkness, as blue, red, and green lights flash around. As the camera zooms out, we see "STUDIOS" - already lit up. The BBC logo then lights up.

This has turned from really interesting and promising to really boring. The logo change has killed the concept I'm afraid.

Another logo change? Shocked Good point. Well, If I were to do that, I might either use the square again, but rounder, with the channel names as the same size as the logo text (a bit like Rai in Italy or something), or just use circles in place of blocks. If not, I might just keep fighting to get the right concept to save this mock from spiralling downward.

Like the one from 1997 onwards? Yeah, I agree. The reason I did this mock because since the Reith typeface dropped, a total shake-up of the BBC’s brand has been way overdue, if I do say so myself.
