BBC 2020 Rebrand Project

Celebrating the BBC's centenary with a stronger identity.

Hi again.

On the gallery, there have been some BBC rebrands lately, so I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring. As the BBC approaches its 100th anniversary (in 2022), I thought I'd do something rarely done on this forum. By that I mean creating a major redesign of the BBC's logo, and modernizing its branding across TV, online and radio to fit with the changing times.

Firstly, the logos. In terms of the TV Channels, each channel (besides BBC Three, which keeps its recently-introduced custom lettering) now has a different variation of the BBC Reith font, their colours intact. CBBC only has a minor rebrand. While CBeebies has its first major redesign of its history. The nationwide radio stations (BBC Radios 1 to 6 Music) took some considerable amounts of time to perfect, but I managed to present them in a streamlined fashion in the end. The nation-specific stations, and the BBC World Service have their own distinct styles. In terms of online services, I decided to give BBC iPlayer a much-needed facelift by "reitheing" the text, and putting a "play" symbol within the "e". All other brands have had minor facelifts. Here's the revamped branding in its shining glory:

*

Next, I moved on to designing promos for the four flagship channels (BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three and BBC Four). I wanted to give them are more unified look, with each channel having a similar on-air presentation on menus, ECPs, and promos, but excluding idents (which I'll get to soon). Here's what makes the channels' respective presentation unique: BBC One's pattern moves left, BBC Two's pattern moves to the right, BBC Three's pattern moves upward, and BBC four's pattern moves downward.
*

Speaking of ECPs, I created a cross-channel EDP that embodies the respective patterns for BBC One and Two. I will show more examples as the process goes on.
*

Lastly, as a bonus, I made a breakdown slide for a bit of fun. This incorporates BBC One's "red circles" pattern.
*

To wrap things up on what could be a revolutionary project for me, thanks to anybody who wishes to check this rebrand idea out - overall, I think this is a work of art. I certainly look forward to hearing your feedback! Smile

It’s pretty good, I’d bring back the three blocks (maybe the old logo inside the box seen here) but overall it is great, the promos especially, they give me ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 vibes with the 3D cutouts.

4/5
Television is my passion.

I certainly get where you're going with this and could definitely work. When it comes to the pattern, what do you intend for the other channels (Scotland, News, CBBC etc.) Will they get their own patterns?

Scotland will get a similar pattern to Two (seeing as it replaced BBC Two in Scotland). The kids channels will have a slightly unique onscreen branding, while BBC News will bear a similar sliding-blocks look, as you'll soon see.

There is a lot to like here. Although I’m not convinced the BBC should lose its iconic blocks, I think you’ve created the best effort of what a world where that happens looks. That’s something you should be commended for because it’s nice to see someone develop a totally new concept.

It also brings back a nice uniformity back to the brands that’s been lost over the years. I’d probably move over to numerals for all the TV channels as that gives in my opinion gives the channels a device to give their branding more identity.

The only logo I really don’t like is the 5 Live one.

The nations radio stations brands also look really smart in a way they don’t now.

Great work!

I think this would work just as well if the BBC blocks were inside the square, but it's your mock so it's up to you.

I like it it's okay But I think it would be better with this BBC blocks and the BBC one logo is a bit weird
I noticed that the curve for BBC 2 isn't perfect and a bit messy.

Which reminds me: When desiging the BBC Two endboard, I did use the curve shape for reference. The result looked a bit strange, so to ensure quality, I decided to use a slimmer curve. #TheMoreYouKnow

Nice work, although, you've forgotten one radio station, 1Xtra.

I would like to see how you redesign that.

Doesn't matter I like it it's very nice and like I said the using the BBC blocks my get you good reviews (maybe reith the BBC blocks) can you do the BBC One logo capitals it looks a bit better as reith looks weird in single caps on a logo.
