I was trying to make something in style of former APFS, so... here's the idea how could television in North West be different from 1956 till 1992. I did post this previously on other forum, but as it was nearly un-replied, I decided to go here.

The main idea is that there were two companies before 1993: Television North (1956-1968) and Television North West (TNW) (1968-92).

So, let's start - and our way is way too long...

Television North (1953-1968)

Arrow Television North won the license for the North of England in 1955 and started its transmissions in 1956. Here's their ident, also used as the frontcap.

Arrow TN (as I'll call it now) did create a lot of formats which are in use now. For example, this caption dates from 1st showing of Corrie.

Arrow TN decided to separate advertising, some programming and news editions for Winter Hill and Emley Moor transmitters. Here are idents which preceded those.

Arrow This was the opener to main edition of news bulletins.

As the franchise re-licensing in 1968 took place, the Northern region was split into Yorkshire, won by - erm - Yorkshire, and North West, won by consortium of North-Western newspapers. TN wanted not to leave viewers with something unknown, so they asked the later-named TNW to keep the programme libraries and at least half of the former staff.
Moving on...

Television North West (TNW) (1968-1992)

Arrow TNW's news service was called differently in different times, as would be seen later.

TNW went colour in 1972.

Arrow Here's their ident. It was either animated (with red, green and blue letters zooming, becoming orange, and with rectangle and arrow (now officially its symbol) moving from different parts) or static.

1983, and when the whole picture of ITV changed, TNW didn't change... a lot.

Arrow That's how it was seen in the North West (and those in Wales, North East and so on, who could receive TNW).

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/germanrudnev/Television%20North%20and%20Television%20North%20West/1989-menu.jpghttp://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/germanrudnev/Television%20North%20and%20Television%20North%20West/1989-clock.jpghttp://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/germanrudnev/Television%20North%20and%20Television%20North%20West/1990-caption.jpg
Arrow Some presentation from 1989 and 1990. Some of them are very low quality.

Moving to 1991... TNW lost in competition with Granada and NWT, but asked Granada to keep all programmes, as well as presenters.

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/germanrudnev/Television%20North%20and%20Television%20North%20West/1991-ident.jpghttp://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/germanrudnev/Television%20North%20and%20Television%20North%20West/1991-ident-2.jpg
Arrow The new (temporary) ident, probably inspired by Granada's efforts. On the right is the special variant of it, seen before local programmes, as well as news.

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/germanrudnev/Television%20North%20and%20Television%20North%20West/1992-caption.jpg
Arrow Captions were also brought into new style.

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/germanrudnev/Television%20North%20and%20Television%20North%20West/1992-menu.jpg
Arrow In 1991, TNW's news were renamed 'North West Tonight' (which didn't stop Granada to rename them Granada Reports ...)

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/germanrudnev/Television%20North%20and%20Television%20North%20West/1992-IVC-last-ever.jpg
Arrow IVC was brought back during the last two months. This is the last - EVER! - continuity bit from TNW, because it was leading into Thames' final show.

And that was it. During the first years, there was no difference between TNW and Granada. But later... they deformed the map of ITV completely.

Well, how is it?

I saw these earlier on the ATV Land forums, and I have to say, they're pretty darn good.

Well, I posted it here just because there I had only ONE reply.
Anyway, thanks.

Awesome, awesome work. As a massive fan of APFS (and having some galleries on there) this would have looked great there.

If I could say anything, I think the 1986 ident is a bit too new-looking for the time, it would fit better into the mid or late 1990s. In '86 it was still the very early days of CGI and a lot of idents were still just basic colours on a black background, like Central, Channel 4, Grampian, etc. Other than that though a brilliant gallery, has made me tempted to re-upload my ATV one!

As you may notice, I changed the topic name, because I want to ask you a question:

Can this thread be turned into:
A) probably my own APFS-esque galleries (as did by Lee in some point in 2004, but with his mocks)?
B) into the all-user topic which can be used by anyone who wants to upload their APFS-esque galleries?

Your opinions are welcome.
