Hi,

I am a year 10 student at secondary school and I am looking for work experience in the summer in media or journalism jobs. By this I mean newspapers, radio, TV stations etc.

If anyone know of any organisations or companies that offer these places, I would be great full if you could inform me.

I have already applied at the main newspapers and the BBC so please don't tell me those ones.

Even better, if any of you work for a company could you please tell me if your company offer these placements.

Thanks Very Happy

Why not? The young chap is only marketing himself!

In response to the original post, I would advise you to try www.mediauk.com for information about work experience.

As Antz said, go back and delete those duplicate threads in all the other sections on TV Forum and you might get a more helpful response.

You only need request a thing once - most members read the new topics as a matter of course.

There's marketing then there's spam, surely?

Spam is unsolicited. As the post in question is media related and on a public notice board, then I fail to see it as spam.

Anoraks getting their knickers in a twist over something so trivial, however, does annoy me.

The sad truth is that work in the Media rarely comes from sending letters. I'm a Year 11 student, so I know what you're going through. I sent 40+ letters a few weeks ago to every conceivable Media Company. So that’s TV, Radio, Advertising and Local Production Companies. I even stretched to Shopping Channels! But since then, I've only received 6 replies - all of them saying "No".

So my advice is two-fold. Keep on sending the letters, but make yours stand out. Make the CV you include impressive, and if you have it, add a portfolio of work you have done that may be relevant (e.g. design work in Media Studies). A great website is www.mediauk.com - it lists channels in EPG order, and each channel has appropriate information and contact details. This was the website I used for my letters.

But most importantly, I suggest you start asking family and friends. It is really tough to get a job in the Media, so the right connections are vital. Ask whether anyone works at a company you would like to get your placement at, or whether they work for a company who provides them a service. The most remote connections may yield great results. And if your school can help, then work with them. They may have good annual placements on their books with big companies.

Good luck, but remember that there are thousands of people doing exactly the same thing as you. Make yourself different and stand out. The fact you're 14 going on 15 will work against you, but not if you prove you're the best for the job. Very Happy

yellow.

I'm all for people asking about media work etc, but spamming the forum with duplicate posts is a bit annoying.

Yellow, Thanks alot for writing that - Hopefully I may be a little luckier than you!

As for the others I really cant see the big problem in posting this message 3-4 times. Some TV Forum users only stay in one part of the forum and I was aiming for everyone to read my message

I am sorry if you didnt want to read the same message 4 times but I dont see why you cant just ignor it. Spamming - well I have seen far worse on these forums.

Could JUST posters with the relevant information reply and not people who just want to put everyone off from reading and providing me with details.

Thank you
