We've just purchased a new 46" Samsung LCD from Costco - it could my eye by the fact that it's got amazing frame rate (if that's the right term to use) and everything is incredibly smooth. Much to the point that IT Crowd-like quality (very smooth, lacking filmic effect) had been applied to Beverly Hills Cop on Sky Anytime HD, which was bloody breathtaking.
Is this just one hell of a telly or are all HDMI feeds as good as this and was are previous telly crap?
By smooth video i'm guessing you mean the interlaced video look. So the look you get from news and as you say 'The IT Crowd'. My dad has a similar effect on his Samsung TV. It's a setting on the TV.
Surprised you like it though. A lot of people think it looks awful, myself included. It makes films look like they were shot on a camcorder. That judderyness adds a gloss which works much better on films.
Having said this, we've just put a DVD on (played it on a HD DVD player) and we're noticing "beats" in the video; it keeps jumping on a regular basis. With most Samsung tellys being the same, do you know how to change this setting? The bumps are becoming way too noticeable.
EDIT: Also noticed that the picture fed from our Sky HD box is still smooth, yet it doesn't jump. It's the only time I've noticed this jumping, but does anyone have any idea what's causing it and how to stop it? Thanks.
There must be some Movie feature setting on your HD-DVD Player, its maybe turned off, I got to admit I had it, then took it off when I realised the HD picture was lacking detail. I have a 28 Samsung LCD TV, yours must be awesome!

I am quite proud of it.
As I say, I don't mind the smoothness of the quality, infact I like it in alot of cases, it's just that jumping I was getting. I'll have a look at the settings next time I put a film on. Thanks
