This may be the wrong forum for this request, but I'll ask away.

My dad sadly died a couple of weeks ago, and one thing left to me was his late mums Teleton T-122 portable black and white Tv set, which still works! On the instructions, it mentions the teleton UK address as being Somerton works, Prince Avenue, Westcliffe on Sea, Essex, SS0 0HU.

Who were Teleton, who owned them, why was the brand name dropped?

And, I looked on Google Earth, and a Tesco is on Prince Avenue. Is this where Teleton used to be? I do know that a rail hi viz clothing firm operates from Somerton works in Westcliffe on Sea, using a different postcode. So, what happened to Teletons factory?

From another forum:

Teleton was the brand name used for various Mitsubishi electronics products that were sold in the U.K. and Western Europe during the '70's.

So it would have been an office, I imagine. Presumably where Tesco is today.

My very first Radio Cassette was a Teleton, beautiful thing until I dropped it and cracked the cassette holder. Took absolutely ages to get a mains lead for it though, was missing when sold. Dealer provided a set of free batteries for each of the four months it took to obtain.
