We're considering an upgrade to Sky HD, with one of the reasons being our Sky+ box is playing up too much. We currently have multiroom but we intend to cancel this to save money.

I'm aware that Sky+ functions aren't available on Freesat from Sky unless you pay £10 a month. However, would I still be able to view programmes I recorded previously? Just we may upgrade to Sky HD sometime next week but there are alot of recordings that haven't been viewed yet - would I still be able to view them without the Sky+ functions?

Many thanks

As programmes you record are onto the hard drive of the digibox you are about to throw out, these unwatched programmes will not be available on the new box. You are going to have to arrange a marathon TV watching session to get through all the unwatched programmes on the old box before it goes.

We don't have any intention to throw it out. If I set the Sky+ box up elsewhere via Scart, lacking a Satellite feed, could I still watch what is on the hard drive?

No, it will complain about the lack of satellite signal. It will only play back recordings if it can check you have the subscription to do so (both Sky+ and the appropriate mix), which requires it to be hooked to the dish.

B*gger. Just as well I asked. Thanks Crispin and Orry.

And remember the decoder is between the hard drive and the TV rather than between the dish and the hard drive. Everything on the drive will be encrypted.

The best solution would be to copy the contents to VHS (if you still have one) or DVD. DVD Recorders are relatively cheap now, or you could borrow one from a friend for a weekend.

I'm spending the evenings transferring alot of the stuff onto DVD. We've booked an installation for Saturday and there are only a few more recordings to get through. I think we'll make it Very Happy
