Any ideas why you can't recieve RaídioTelefísÉireann (RTÉ) on Sky Digital in the UK although you can manually tune it in?

Any ideas greatly recieved - I miss Fair City!

Hmmm...because you do not live in Ireland?

Sky ROI cards have programmed so that 101 is RTE. You try tuning in RTE Manually in the UK and you will get a 'Programme not available'

I have tried to do this myself.

I inputted the details and I had the channels stored. None of them worked except the Radio stations.

RTE contacted me saying that their channels are not avaliable in the UK, and said that they can recieve our channels.

To make it simple RTÉ is only available on Sky in the Republic of Ireland on Ch101 and 102, it is also available in Northern Ireland somehwere in the 200's I believe. Otherwise it isn't available in the UK, neither is TV3 or TG4.

Why bother anyway, most of the stuff on RTÉ is shown in the UK anyway, their News is available to watch online and their presentation is widely available on sites like The TV Room.

Fair City isn't on in the UK, not even on UTV.

Actually, BBC1 and BBC2 are available on Sky Digital in the ROI at channels 169 and 170 respectively. The rest of the BBC TV and Radio channels can be tuned in manually. But yes, ITV is unavailable with the exception of ITV3, which is on channel 119. Channels 4 and 5 are also unavailable but E4 and E4+1 can be got on 163 and 164 respectively. It would seem likely that if ITV3 is currently available, they'll probably make ITV4 available here too when it comes on air.

Is it right what I hear about RTE?

Apparently the Irish Government is saying that it may be broadcast throughout Europe on the ASTRA signal? If so, will it only be RTE1 and RTE2 or TV3 and TG4 as well?

That's very interesting. I doubt that TV3 and TG4 will be broadcast along with RTÉ if those plans go ahead. Afterall, the government has nothing to do with TV3 and very little to do with TG4. In fact, I heard that RTÉ is going to cut its connections with TG4 altogether.

I could see RTÉ going FTA across Europe, as mentioned very little Irish TV is shown in the UK, they tried it with Tara TV but this failed. Can't see TV3 coming to the UK, it has naff all to do with the Irish Government and the majority shareholder is ITV, thus alot of ITV programmes and other UK/US programmes are shown on there.

Putting TG4 would be a good idea, though it wouldn't be widely watched, it would probably rank the same as S4C Digidol in the UK.
