This is something of an archaic request (even though it still only feels like yesterday) but does anyone happen to have a recording of the retrospective programme that looked back at the 5 years the ITN / ITV News Channel was on the air? It was hosted by Alastair Stewart and filled the last 30 minutes of air time back in December 2005.
There are only snippets of the programme online (on TV Ark and YouTube) but if anyone does have the full programme, I'd be ever so grateful if you could upload it for me. It would be great to see it again.
After much digging through piles of old DVDs, I found my recording of the last 90 minutes of the ITV News Channel. I can't believe it's over 9 years ago that it closed.
I remember my family had some big pre-Christmas meal that evening, and I wasn't sure whether I'd get a chance to escape for long enough to set it to record. I must have been pretty ninja to get the DVD player going without being missed.
Thanks for finding and uploading it, but unfortunately "This video contains content from UEFA, who has blocked it on copyright grounds." Perhaps try uploading it to Metropol or Dropbox.
One of my clearest memories from the final day was following the thread here on TV Forum, turning over whenever something interesting was happening such as when instead of showing an ad break they just showed a breakfiller in its entirety. During the final programme as well they couldn't make their mind up whether to keep the (current) clock on screen, it kept disappearing.
Thank you so much for going to such an effort, jonO. I really appreciate it! If there's any way that you could upload it to one of the places VMPhil suggests, I would be very grateful indeed. It would be great to see it again. Like you say, it's unbelievable that it's just over 9 years since it closed. It only seems like yesterday - and I still miss it!
That didn't take long. Just over 10 minutes since you posted it and it's been blocked on copyright grounds. Think a bit of editing is needed!
Haha. They're super keen. I thought I'd get a day at least.
The reason I ended up using YouTube is because it let me trim the video easily- the video editing software I have insisted on trying to re-encode the file, and ruined the sound/vision sync. Also, the DVD itself is an off-brand one, and my ripping software only lets me get the whole image. Nightmare.
Thanks very much indeed jonO. This is just what I was after and I've really enjoyed watching it again. Thanks for taking the time to search for it in your DVD collection.
Much missed - still pisses me off that weeks after saying they had no Freeview slot for it they launched ITV Play. Deserves them right that resulted in millions in fines!
An interesting retrospective though, not just of the channel but of a significant few years of stories.
