Does anyone on this forum have a copy of "Brand Identity for Television: With Knobs On" Written by Martin Lambie-Nairn? If so, can you get a few pictures of pages containing drawings/prototypes of the BBC2 rebrand which was covered in the book.

Thanks

Justin,

I've got this book too but my scanner isn't working. Happy to try and take some photos for you instead if that will do? Just say ...

Thanks.

Sure. That'll be fine for what I'm using it for.

The only other BBC2 pictures I can find are screengrabs from the final idents.

That's the only one I took pictures of - then I realised it was only BBC2 stuff you were after. Will have a flick when I get back this evening.

Would you mind explaining the context of those 'ONE' and 'TWO' images? They're hideous! Were they original concepts?

No other sketches/renders, just stills from finished idents.

Here is some context to the ONE/TWO boxes above. tl;dr: it was just a first step in unifying the two brands. Martin Lambie-Nairn didn't like them, the BBC didn't like them and eventually somebody pointed out solo numerals were more effective.

The top middle one is interesting as it seems to have been made but never broadcast. You can see it here.

Labelled as Balloon for some reason.

Like much of the original set, it has a great 'what am I looking at' factor to it. It is, as the name suggests, a balloon - the sequence you see is slow motion of a balloon being popped, in reverse.

I get the impression the effect wasn't as impressive as they'd hoped, and it stood out because the 2 wasn't an object in and of itself.
