This is pathetic, IMO. Most videos uploaded are 4:3 and many 16:9 captures are either cropped, squeezed or letterboxed.
Exactly. The "Channel 4 at 25" idents are a fine example of this, they were uploaded in squeezyvision and are still like that, and it looks stupid and unprofessional.
I've also noticed that random spots are turning up every so often. It's incredibly annoying, as it looks silly, but even worse, it looks as if it is the video at fault, not YouTube (this is not the case - the spots were not there before).
I welcome the widescreen player. Current 4:3 videos will still play in 4:3 and at exactly the same size as before, and if you actually uploaded your Widescreen videos properly in the first place, they are automatically converted to widescreen. Mine have, and look great.
Whereas before people who actually shot in HD or 16:9 SD were disadvantaged and had to letterbox their stuff, now both 4:3 and 16:9 users can get the optimum quality from their videos.
Zoetrope wouldn't be TOO bad if it weren't so flipping long. But the fact that its soundtrack has been permanently etched into my brain shows that it's high time for a change on the BBC Two front.
So perhaps iPlayer will just show a sting from the Xmas batch this year rather than the "short" version of the ident like last Christmas (and early January).

They could at least have warned people, I've letterboxed all my Christmassy uploads already and they look ridiculous now. I wish they'd give us the option to replace existing videos without losing comments, ratings, viewing figures etc. instead of having to completely reupload them in HQ or Widescreen from scratch.
I get that as well, nok32uk. It's been popping up on and off over the last few weeks, but I still haven't found way to get rid of it. Obviously a cache / cookie problem, which I assume has already been reported to YT.
