Has anyone seen a clean version of this version? It seems all the other versions have turned up expect the best one. There is a difference between opening and closing theme.

Hopeful someone can point something out while I'm stuck in the densit.

Thanks.

Its This one, Opening is at the start: Credirs 24m 7 sec. The three composers dont have it. alas one one would like it back, BUT I cant be sure how honest one of them are.

One of the most impossible theme tunes to get a clean copy of is the original Jack Parnell version from 1980 which is an absolute belter of a big band/jazz theme. As far as I'm aware there is only a clean copy of the 2000 version. Mike Alexander was the main composer of all the newer versions (up to the All-Star one) wasn't he?
Perhaps we should do a list of "unobtainable clean themes" and see who comes up trumps for Christmas? My wishes are Jack Parnell's Family Fortunes and Johnny Patrick's 3-2-1 (plus a library of Ed Welch) Rolling Eyes Crying or Very sad

Im sure that 1980 version is somewhere around but is being kept hidden from any of us. With 1987 version Mike Alexander was the main composer but he had help from Trevor Oerton, and Colin Campbell. Colin died, while Trevor would like a copy, mind you it says alot of his stuff is trapped in the BBC Vaults. Mike was nice and he said the 87 theme did use a proper orchestra unlike today music..... hence why colin was on broad. Such a nice person, you could have a simple chat about stuff.

You are correct ALL arrangements are based on the 87 version with Mike Woolmans, doing the 2000 version and Ash Alexander and Simon Darlow doing the All star Arrangement.

My money would be on Kim Goody and Alan Coates those two take the biscuit for rudeness and unobtainable clean themes. My mind you there was a Granada composer who was so disgusted he was asked about his TV work he was utterly rude and stated didn't we have anything better to do? Stupid Git, if it wasn't for his early work I bet he would never have gotten into films.. My film composer hate there tv work... Rolling Eyes

I do wonder who would come up top trump Nic in that catalogue Wink

Is that the same Kim Goody who was on kids' tv? Very interesting!

I had heard the rumour there was a "master" of Jack Parnell's great theme in its entirety but God knows where it is (and I don't mean Ed Welch lol). The sound was so good it felt like there was a full orchestra in the ATV studio on each show. When dear Max took over from Bob, Central faded away the end flourish on each round start just to shave a few seconds.

I have a loose contact whose husband was heavily involved in most of the major Central/ATV game/quiz shows. I'm not sure if she'll have any clues but there's no harm in asking - she'll think I'm nuts but there's nothing new there Very Happy

I believe Ed Welch appreciates the interest in his quiz show themes and rightly so - a theme's composition can help make a show what it is. The pilot for Millionaire had none of the suspense or depth of the theme we hear to this day. Tony Hatch doesn't mind playing Crossroads, Emmerdale or Neighbours on his piano for audiences yet he has composed countless hit songs - a very nice guy apparently. They remember their beginnings and what raked in the ££s.

You do learn something new every day, Never know Kim was an actress, and singer, maybe that why she hates being asked about are composers work. Central needed every single advert slot it could get while Max was on air Wink Max was a good guy just not for gameshows, he wont be the last that fall into that trap.

There nothing wrong with asking, that the only way to found out. Maybe you could find some interesting stories out for the production team Razz I wonder why Central paid all that money for music, then half the time you could never hear anyways with all the clapping and cheering. I wonder if that person ever meet Mike Alexander.

Ed is nice, he been around the block many times, even did Euroversion and wrote most of the scripts for Wolves, Witches and Giants.

Some composers are nice, other are just bitter and crabby. Paul Maguire and Mike Moran seem to fall into that the second lot. ......

There's quite a few bits of game show music that must still be out there somewhere. The sadly long gone WeDigTV seemed to have access to the original TVS Catchphrase backing tracks for instance, and the mobile game had the Carlton era ones.

The original Play Your Cards Right theme is one id like to see surface. The full version always played over the credits but of course, it was obscured by applause.
