I've been approached by a researcher trying to get clearance to use the original BBC2 ident from 1964 in a documentary he's making, complete with accompanying fanfare.
But even the BBC don't know who composed the music. Any ideas as to how we can find out? Many thanks.

BBC would still control it! so you should still ask the bbc to use it
I think the common sense route should be applied here. Look at people you
know
composed jingles, theme tunes etc for BBC services at around the same time, and see if any of them come up with results.
While unfortunately I don't know the answer, I would also echo that the best bet seems to be looking at composers who did pieces for the Beeb at that time, and if possible contacting relevant people there to see if anyone can shed some light on it - someone has to know surely, it's just a matter of finding them!
