Hi there. I was wondering if anyone would know the name of the font Channel 4 used during the squares/stripes era from 1999 until the end of 2004, or whether it was custom made. I know that the current Channel 4 fonts, including More4 and Film4, are all custom made but the 1999 font does not look like a custom font. It looks very similiar to DIN but it isn't the exact same.

Feel free to reply in here or in a PM if you have any information. Thanks Smile Here are some stills if you are unsure what font I am on about (click for full size):

Thanks again in advance. Smile

I would suggest that it is DIN 1451 - but probably specially adapted for broadcast use which I believe occurs for many typefaces. It would, I assume, just mean that they're hinted to ensure they display better at TV resolutions.

While there may be some slight tweeks to the hinting, it looks like so close to the copy of DIN I've got here as to be virtually indistinguishable.

(Apart from the analogue capture noise obviously!)

Yes I think I was looking at the wrong version of DIN until Andrew brought up DIN 1451, thanks for the comparison graphic.

And also, I think that last capture has been captured digitally not on analogue if you compare the other two screengrabs Wink
