Central TV Font

Does anyone know what the Central font is used on the Central ident from 1985?

Isn't that Futura?

It's a custom made font I think. There's a fantastic recreation of it lurking around online, made by Mark McMillan, who used to run the APFS website. It's in a Zip File which is located here

I believe the original was called 'B1 2JP' - or at least was christened that by the foundry, it was custom drawn and that's an accurate recreation!

The Central 'font' was being used by ATV in the 1970s on internal paperwork such as the memos, although I can't recall its proper title I did have it written down somewhere. But I don't think ATV went to the expense of having it made just for internal documents.

The closest commercial font is ErbarNeo Mini, which was also used in Central's other presentation such as slides and menus.

Only the zero and apostrophe don't match closely enough - and a capital O is too wide to replace the zero.
