Hello,

I'm looking for help selling my set of Blue Peter books. I have nearly all the books - both annuals and incidental titles - including the rare first and second annuals.

But I'm struggling to find enough interest from secondhand bookshops and auctions. Can anyone offer any advice or recommend an alternative potential outlet please?

Thank you.

Hi Andrew - sadly there isn’t much worth in the annuals. One and two are, of course, worth slightly more and are rarer to find though I’d still expect to see these sell for less than £20. 3-25, 35-40 are particularly common selling for less than £1, and 25-35 are slightly less common selling for probably just under £2 as they were from a time when people believed them to be collectible, so hung onto them. Your best bet is to try eBay.

There seems to be an idea that people can have every edition of an annual published and think its worth a fortune. It may be that in the case of the Blue Peter books they increase in value slightly as and when the show finally comes off the air in x years time but even then its not guaranteed.

The main exception tends to be the comics with the original free gifts such as an original copy of the first Beano comic from 1938 that had a whoopee mask, of which apparently one exists. It last sold for £17k. A 1st Dandy with its whistler sold for £20k in 2004.
