Hi everyone,

I'm usually good at thinking of stuff, but in this case, no.

I was wondering if any of you would be so kind as to giving me suggestions for the following BBC Radio stations:

BBC Radio 1
BBC Radio 1Xtra
BBC Radio 2
BBC Radio 3
BBC Radio 6 Music

Thanks!

IMO the regular names have been around for so long now audiences would have absolutely no idea what they were listening to if the names were changed. The public would be "OUTRAGED". If you were to change them though, and you were sticking with the same demographics for the channels, it'd be easier for people to know what they were listening to through a descriptive name, like "BBC Radio Classical" or "Radio Urban". You're the radio expert though, not me, so you'd know more about it and whether or not that would work.

And keep in mind that we are on TV Forum here.

Generally, I think the BBC does a pretty good job with the national radio stations - not so sure with local ones but that's for another debate. I don't really think that the stations NEED new logos or names but a new logo and brand identity could definitely help to re-energize them as it has been a while since the last rebrand.

I'd have to give more thought to it to come up with new concepts for them, so I'll leave that to you but do take a look at what other networks in Europe do and come up with an original concept while keeping styles you like in mind.

I would keep the names the same as I think these are really very well known and think that changing the name doesn't really add anything and would be more likely to cause confusion unless you really are trying to rebrand a station and give it a completely new focus and identity.

Of the stations you listed, I'd remove the 'Music' from 'BBC Radio 6 Music' or potentially give it it's own separate name under the Radio 1 banner something like 'BBC Radio 1A' (referring to the Alternative style of music they play). To be honest though, given it's not a major station, I'd probably just remove 'Music' rather than waste time coming up with too much of a new name and identity for them.

I think they'll want to keep it aligned to Radio 2 as it's more in keeping with the music they play.

Yeah, I think you're right actually, I slightly misjudged the age range that 6 Music target. In this case, I'd probably rebrand it BBC Radio 2 Extra.
