If the original thread was closed, it's probably not the best idea to start up another Thumbs down

I don’t think we can realistically stop BBC News themes being requested. The Requests forum might as well shut if that was the case.

itsrobert has got a point. By the way, George Fenton's Newsnight has been going on for nearly 40 years.
Did you see the new titles back on Monday?

My favourite has to be the original beep-beep one from 1999, it sounds much fresher than the one with the ugly strings they use nowadays..

Not this again, I thought we put this to bed.

Yeah, but the closing of the recent thread was done amid fears about the BBC finding out.

I thought it was more about those who have them in their private collections being disgruntled that they end up being uploaded to YouTube. There have been BBC News theme requests ever since TV Forum began in 2001 and, to the best of my knowledge, the BBC have never had a problem with it. They've certainly had ample opportunity to do something about it.

Fair enough about library music; but if we start banning requests for BBC News themes, then that should extend to all requests for everything and the Requests forum should be closed completely. Technically we shouldn't upload anything for which we don't own the copyright.

There have been some ambitious requests on here over the years but I think looking for a high-res copy of music from more than 70 years ago is pushing it a bit far! We can't exactly email the composer and see if they will share a copy...

Seriously?
A Flux capacitor might be a better solution, because at least with it you can make the recording and bring it back.
