I made animated textures, with blocks of those dots fading in and out at random. As well as refracted reflections, swirling colours, shadows, highlights, interior highlights etc.

How did you do that white wipe effect for the globe.

Here's a version with some animation, I added a refection layer you wont have but you can find HDR reflection maps online easily enough.
