BBC Two - Mock Ident Music

As far as I know, the only current BBC Two Ident suitable to introduce more serious programming/news is the Bounce version with the more sombre soundtrack.

I've had a go at some ident music which could also be used for this purpose, using the current ident signature tune as the intro, which is heard twice after. Made a last minute change by adding a harp type sound in the background.

The piece runs for around 30 seconds. I had to record sounds individually, and piece them together at correct volume, it took some time! Listen out for some bell-like chimes at around 13 seconds, they are based on a part from some of the 1990's '2' idents.

Most, if not all BBC2 ident music runs for 50-55 seconds and doesn't just cease at the end so for what you did, it's good.

First of all, thanks - I'm glad someone thinks my composition was of a good standard!

30 secs is the usual max time an ident runs for at closedowns, so I just composed up to that point, you rarely get anything after that point actually broadcast.

I have seen an ident fade to black at 30 seconds while the bbc 2 logo is still present in the corner - a short while after, the music sounded like it came to an actual end, rather than being cut off. That's the other reason why I kept it to roughly 30 secs.

I also think this is pretty good, it may just inspire me to create my first BBC 2 mock... then again it may not.

There is an ident for news programmes, Its the slidy one with your sort of music.
The BBC 2 appears and slides and appears in another part of the screen

BBC 2 also uses a still of the Bounce ident with no music for particularly sensitive programmes. For example, the series on Paedophilia used this.

With regards to your mock, very impressive! Excellent work, and I can see it being broadcast, but perhaps it has a few too many layers for its intended purpose? Maybe some of the longer notes make it feel very gloomy!

That's mainly because the announcement was longer than 30"..!

But thinking back, I think any other ident would have been inappropriate. The programme itself had no titles - but this does, indeed, make sense.

Perhaps there should be some extended versions of the music for use in such circumstances?!

Yeah well it's likely that sombre occasions would merit a longer announcement anyway, so this would be a good idea.
