The company above were responsible for creating some of the models for the BBC2 Idents 1991-2001!

I've never seen this one before:

mhm, been meaning to post about this from there. I note the use of Garden's revised soundtrack.

Dons anorak. Now, TV-Ark reckons Garden was introduced after the first 11 sometime in 1991, originally with a slight variation on Water's music. Which suggests...

1. The above is a rejected 1991 original, whose soundtrack was recycled a few months down the line. (unlikely - colour scheme and mood don't fit)
2. The above is an unused special ident/later addition, its music, again, picked up for Garden instead.
3. A random track was assigned as a demo, rendering this post (even more) pointless. (meh - it seems to fit better here than it does with Garden; this post is still pointless)

I like it anyway.

Out of the possibilities you've listed, this one seems to make the most sense... Maybe.

The sequence is a strange combination of an unusually long form-up (even the soundtrack starts late) using quite a nice moving fabric texture, then the sudden shift to a completely flat, plain still image which is something the other symbols practically always avoided.

Aside from it being a jarring contrast, this hybrid style doesn't really fit in to any phase of the regular additions. It does have a pre-1993 special ident vibe - I'm especially thinking Made In Japan style, colour scheme and all - otherwise, some sort of motion texture demo where the base '2' on its own wasn't important.

In anticipation of its return next month, here's the full length CD-version of the Red Dwarf theme.

Annoyingly it's a bad cover Sad These lyrics however were by Howard Goodall!

I have to say, I never liked that cover version either - the actual title and credits versions however, sound great.

Special mention to the credits version that, although I don't know when it was first used, was definitely featured in Series 6 - it sounds a bit more funk; I think it's the bass. In fact it may have been based on the instrumentation for the Elvis version at the end of Meltdown, but I haven't checked that...

This aired late on Channel 4's Comedy Lab in 2004 - a bizarre twist on the edited clips show...

A UK Gold Classics ident has surfaced:

Nothing earth-shattering, but a rare example of a rather under-rated package.

Just a heads-up that I've started a channel again: http://www.youtube.com/user/powhatan5657. I intend to upload some bits and pieces of continuity that I've recently transferred from VHS to DVD. I've started with a BBC1 junction and some Granada continuity from 1992, but there's other stuff to come so watch this space Smile

Cheers, Rob! I haven't got that large a collection of VHS - probably around 10 or so - but I'll work my way through them and upload anything that I think will be of interest. Keep watching!
