From early 2006, a caption for the then-upcoming CITV Channel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bBMP1tL-h0

Weird... This uses the old logo from 2001(?). Did they change the logo quickly before it launched?

All the ITV logos changed in January 2006, a couple of months before the channel launched, so it's possible that caption was being broadcast from sometime in late 2005

I’m sure CITV changed its logo when the channel launched, which meant that the 1998/01 logo hung around for a few months after the 2006 refresh.

It appears you are right. In fact, this TV Forum thread allows us to date when that caption first appeared, 19th January 2006.

I'd stopped watching CITV by then so I didn't remember, though I did watch the launch of the channel.

CITV's always been the odd one out presentation-wise.

The 1998 logo (the original yellow one) stuck around in some form I believe for quite some time, but somewhere after 2003 I think it was the on-screen DOG was white and transparent (and much larger), but everywhere else it was the same yellow logo in a new "style".

In fact a quick poke on YouTube:

Original CITV logo still in use in June 2003.

By December 2003, the 1998 logo (and DOG) was no more but this look was so blatantly based on the previous look it was hard to miss:

I think this was still in place up until the launch of the CITV Channel in 2006, here's the preview loop:

Yeah, I never thought that era was very good looking, it all seemed a pale imitation of what had come before.

I'm not sure it was ever supposed to last as long as it did, there were reports for ages that CITV was going to be replaced by a partnership with Nickelodeon called INK (ITV Nickelodeon Kids) but it never came to fruition.

Yes, they were also going to launch their channel in 2002 I believe but their budget was slashed (I think IIRC by that time it was only about a third of what CBBC had) and the plan for the channel went out the window with it.

With regards to INK - budget again I think kicked it out the window.

Pretty sure that the alteration to the 1998 CITV logo came in September 2003, which is when the studio was downsized and the very final phase of IVC began. I'd stopped watching it by that point, but I think it was all a bit of a shame the way that the whole service was wound down in that 2003-4 era.

I remember the promo appeared on the afternoon strand on ITV1 in February, so I imagine the new look was designed in late January. I personally found the logo and presentation to be very bland, especially compared to (in my opinion), much better SVG version of 1998 logo, due to its use of bold primary colours, plus their blatant attempts to try and categorize the strand for CBeebies and CBBC demographics: (Mini CITV, anyone?)

The 2009 logo was a slight improvement, (reintroducing yellow as the channel's predominant colour), but easily the current logo introduced in 2013 takes the most influence from the '98 one, (which itself was an improvement of the 1991 logo), just with the ITV corporate logo included:
*

I remember a similar situation in regards to the delayed relaunch happening to CBBC in 1991, when the 1985 logo and the Acorn Archimedes ident remained in use until September 9th, although the Broom Cupboard got redesigned in May 1991 and lasted through numerous modifications until March 1993:

^ That last clip's from the final Monday before the revamp, and two days after NICAM Stereo broadcasting on BBC TV was available to viewers outside of London for the first time.

I think the modifications were mainly because the neon lights had been ordered but didn't arrive in time for the launch of the new set.

If this is the period just before the launch of NICAM would this set have launched on the return to the Broomcupboard from the Boiler Room*?

*Actually the original broom cupboard - the spare one associated with NC3 - but presenting from a standing position in front of the monitor stack. Used for a period while NC1 was being upgraded for NICAM.
Write that down in your copybook now.

Well, I know the Broom Cupboard was redecorated in May 1990, to match the Acorn Archimedes ident introduced the previous Autumn:

It was refitted for Stereo in August 1989, which after they returned, looked like this:

It makes me wonder if any Stereo Broom Cupboard links pre-1991 have surfaced, even though only viewers in London could have that privilege at the time.

James Redmond's first episode on SMTV.

I will admit, he did sound abit bland in the menu and he did look very nervous.

However, it was a very funny show and James on CDUK was also kind of good.

The uploader is also amazing as he's uncovering these hidden gems for us to see.

I hope he keeps it up.

I've been going through news articles online with regards to SM:TV, and I was slightly surprised to find that Cat announced she was leaving SM:TV at the end of January, and apparently made the decision shortly after Ant and Dec left. I thought she was there for much longer, though of course time doesn't pass by so quickly when you're a kid. In the end, I think James was sacked before she even left.

Also, was CD:UK still live throughout the rest of the time Cat presented? I have a feeling it switched to being recorded earlier in the week later on, but am not 100% certain.
