I'm surprised there was no announcement about the closedown. There is a clip of Thames doing the same that week and they explained it to the audience

Well given that LWT didn’t really give much love for its night time output including continuity, the tone of the caption is not a surprising one. Funny as you’d have thought that more people would be watching at night time on a Friday or Saturday night back then.

What was the explanation? Work at Crystal Palace?

Wish I could find the clip now, it's been posted here before I think.
Yeah, as the London region only has one transmitter if that went off then so did the ITV station. The same up in Granada land, The Channel Isles and HTV West?

Tyne Tees Look North (North East)
Granada used a schools menu at the start and end of the morning. I see Thames doing it there during the mid-morning longer interval. I remember Tyne Tees occasionally doing something similar. Anglia too.

Robin Blamires has some absolute gems in his collection, such as links from the launch day of the Channel 4 Squares look on Good Friday 1999:

A clip compilation of the Gas Street years of CITV, and even CITV on ITV1 continuity from September 2006, just a few months before its inevitable demise, plus GMTV Kids bits from 1996-2004:

And finally, bits of SM:TV Live and CD:UK from November 1998:
