Thanks for this - fascinating stuff.

I find the PA's counting to the dance absolutely fascinating - it's not in time at all..!

I think that was the era when Sports Personality of the Year was one of the very few UK shows with music that was second counted, not beats/bars counted.

Also a brief clip of the awful re-recorded phone jingle for Live and Kicking that year, though I think the full thing has since surfaced on YouTube.

Traffic news, on Radio 2...

Curious how show 1 had the 1996/series 4 jingle. Perhaps it wasn't ready in time.
The feedback was terrible and they had a few weeks where guests would sing the jingle - I recall Gary Barlow doing it on a piano one week - and then by the end of the series they re-recorded it entirely, which following a few tweaks sounded like this in series 6:

The Dick and Dom absences were a bit odd given that year the Sunday show were recorded directly after the Saturday shows. But then it seemed fairly obvious they found the Sunday shows a bit of a chore by that point.

I remember Dick saying he was missing the Sunday show to go to his brother's wedding, which presumably was on a Saturday afternoon. Although everyone says the final series of Da Bungalow wasn't as good, some of the hour-long Sundays shows made for quite remarkable viewing, pretty much the entire show would be devoted to the forfeit auction, always one of the best bits, and they were increasingly esoteric and self-indulgent, in the very best way. It sort of became a show about the show itself.

I have a copy of that full episode, if you've never seen it since!

I have seen it since, thank you very much. Apart from the George Michael performance at the end it's a surprisingly upbeat and starry show for such a grim week.

It has been sadly reported that Jimmy Patton, older brother of Paul and Barry Elliott/Chuckle, died yesterday at the age of 87.

Here is one of the better (later) episodes of Chucklevision featuring Mr Patton where "Digi Chuck" install Digital TV into No Slacking's home:

No more slacking now.

This has been out for a few months, but haven’t got round to sharing it on here till now. Noel Gallagher inserts himself into an episode of ’70s Granada variety show The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club - complete with endcap.

Sad news, especially after the loss of Barry last year. My thoughts are with the Elliott family tonight.

Following previous Live & kicking videos, I thought I’d share this, it may have already been shared over the past 300+ pages but it’s a 1998/9 look behind the scenes of Live & Kicking.

I remember this going out and was amazed at the time by the amount of people working on the programme, and also how the set doesn’t take up the full studio space, maybe this was for sketches and/or performances I’m unsure. I also love the Kwakatak jingle at the end.

I think there was a period when the show moved from TC7 to TC6 that they were only allowed to use the same amount of space as they had in TC7.

A bit of Dailymotion Gold. The entire series of Calendar Countdown, the Yorkshire-only regional precursor to Countdown, has been uploaded. Here's the first episode, and click through to the rest of the channel to watch them all - if you dare.

The first episode continues the shoddiness of the unbroadcast pilots with the theme tune and clock music being played at the same time.

Absolutely love that theme tune and the darkened studio in the ending you just don’t get tv like that anymore.
