Yorkshire's Millennium ident here which was also designed for use for Granada and Tyne Tees too. A marked improvement on the offerings from other non-Carlton regions. I remember this ident being mentioned on one of the pres websites but thought that it had mentioned that it never made it to air?

Also one of the final ITV News appearances of Julia Somerville before she'd move on to the ITN News Channel, even more unusually hosting a weekend bulletin (though understandably it was New Year's Day).

Just clocked the ident music is the same as this, bar slogan vocals/effects..

The West Coast version of Today at the time of the 9/11 attacks. Note how they take the standard WC feed and then the affiliate crashes into the eastern NBC Today feed after the second plane hits the south tower.

I admit I have limited knowledge about how American television actually works, but why did nobody seem to care about the story until the second plane hit? You can see the first plane crash is cited at the bottom of the screen, but how come that wasn't a priority over a story about Michael Jordan? I must be missing something here.

Christ, imagine watching that live and it suddenly flicking over like that. I must’ve seen that footage hundreds of times over these 17 years but it’s never not shocking.

It appears that at least someone at the affiliate was watching, which led to the sudden flick of feeds, but I was surprised at that time that the West Coast feed was the time delayed version at 9am ET.

That '9 News Now' ticker/flipper at the bottom looks like it's been added on after the fact.

Technically, that's not a West Coast feed, that's from Denver based station KUSA which is in the Mountain time zone. The Pacific time zone never saw the opening to Today that the east coast saw. A little surprising that they started the time delayed feed rather than jumping straight into the coverage, considering the first plane had alreay hit the tower.

Yes, it says 7am on the clock when it would have been 6am Pacific Time.

It was probably just a matter of who made the decision to go from the planned time delay to the live coverage. The coverage of the first tower on fire had only started about 10 minutes beforehand. According to the comments on that video NBC didn't start a 'Special Report' which apparently instructs their affiliates to start taking the network for news. There was presumably a bit of confusion at the station itself about what to do... until the 2nd plane when it was fairly obvious

I think this needs one of our North American contributors to explain how the morning shows work. I'm pretty sure that they essentially do two shows back to back from New York, with West coast's starting after the east's ends? Or is there some overlap.

Going by that video those that are in the other time zones just timeshift?

Looks like YouTube are faffing around with the videos again, they seem to have stopped pillarboxing 4:3 stuff into a 16:9 frame, instead just presenting it as straight 4:3.

Or at least this is the case on the website. Embedded videos are still pillarboxed.

I’ve noticed them testing this over the last few months. Looks like they’ve made it permanent.

I've been doing some research on this. Today only airs a live West Coast updated feed when breaking news warrants, and usually only the opening segment of the hour is updated, with other segments running as normal. Local cut-ins are available at :25 and :55 past the hour, which are usually live, but sometimes recorded during the network feed for airplay in the cut-in slot.

CBS This Morning's West Coast feed has an updated opening and updated live reports. There are also similar local cut-ins at :25 and :55. ABC's Good Morning America similarly updates their opening and live reports for the West Coast, also with local cut-ins at :25 and :55.
