I think AxG is referring to the fact they've recoloured the logo?

The official YouTube logo is still this however:

It's only changed on the website.

does this mean we're going to have to do a new christmas theme over the road next year?

Everything's binned for the new look and it is a simpler design - header has gone. I think it was an improvement on the old design but definitely needs a makeover now.

So pleased to hear that! Without a doubt it was an improvement on the old design but the years haven't been kind to this template/software at all - in fact it's still a bit rough around the edges!

Even if you used proprietary software like IP.Board, it'd look a lot nicer and be easier to manage! phpBB I'd not recommend as it's what the forum used to use many moons ago, and certainly not Ikonboard Razz

I will comment and say I never felt like this software was 100% finished and ready to go live, I suspect it was rushed out to shut us (the 'this template is vile/old/horrid/dated etc brigade) up, and I do respect it was built by yourself in your spare time and it's a bit much to expect an amazing package - it does the job I suppose!

The only element I'd like to see return from the look of years ago is the old Gill Sans logo - It fitted better with the 'TV' device, that said, it may be wiser to start afresh with the logo, maybe retaining the quotation marks within the TV lettering but go down a different route all together!

One thing I also miss is the notification options - where can I, in this software, enable an e-mail on receipt of a new PM? If it's here I've never been able to find it!

Anyway, enough whinging from me - have a great Christmas and New Year, Asa Smile

If this new template arises, I have no doubts it will, then most probably yes. What Dimble will say about this I'm not sure, maybe if you don't consult him you can get away with change.

Just move the logo over to the right.

One of the best features of this software - the calendar icon to search through threads for a specific date - has disappeared. Please could you bring it back when this new redesign domes back?

Also, I agree on the logo - the serif font just doesn't fit. I don't know why Asa changed it, but I guess he had his reasons... (that he will now tell us because he feels obliged to reply Razz ).

Away from the negatives, I still think it's amazing Asa has set up and designed his own forum software from scratch. It obviously took a long time for it to be incorporated, but after a few bugs were ironed out, it's a lot better than the previous software, miles ahead. Anyone remember the days of the broken Profile Xtra and members joining on 1st January 1970? However, keeping up with other forum software, especially IP.Board 3, will be challenging (it offers services such as status updates, full profiles, arcades, chat, etc) and so I wouldn't blame you if you choose to go down that route.

At the end of the day TV Forum is given to us for free, and I try not to take granted of that. I know we already have the greetings thread, but I'd like to wish Asa and all of the TV Forum staff a happy Christmas and new year, and thanks for keeping the ship up and running for the past decade (even if I didn't join until 2005!)

arcades, chat

Is that what TV Forum needs? Maybe, but I don't think so. The current software does perfectly with what we need, and though it still has a few bugs, it's great to have something that matches the site really well.

I look forward to the new design, much as I like the current one, and only hope that it's very soon!

I know, I was just stating some of the features available in that particular software Smile

I think because it updates so constantly and you have to put the forum offline every time it updates. Asa didn't update the phpBB software for a long time and so it quickly became bug and virus ridden. I think Mike is trying to point in the direction of a forum software that doesn't need to be maintained so much.

it's not been updated since July. Plus I tend to take the forum offline because I'm pernicketty and like to faf about with things at the same time, it doesn't need to be down for more than about 10 mins.
