I didn't join until 2009, and so am not one of the older members, and even I am irritated to no end by the insane ramblings of some of the users here. Some of them are even obsessive about presenters, as if this is what they want from their life.

Is there anyway we could have a blocked user list? This is, I think, implemented on other sites, simply meaning that posts from that user won't display. But then again, you could end up with a rather disjointed view on things by losing posts. But then again, some of the posts contain no quality, so there'd be no issue.

Thanks. That's nice. Smile

However I think I now realise that my old name is probably the one I am going to be most remembered by. Oh well. Embarassed

Edit: And yes, I've just tried the Random Topic feature too and the 'ITV Telethon' topic has come up twice.

The main issue is you end up with a divided forum - posters ending up in discussions with only members they like, and not even being aware of others' contributions to a thread, even where they could have interesting additions to a topic.

That said, could this forum get any more divided at the moment?

I'm in favour of the ability to 'ignore' posts from specified individuals, but I could understand Asa's potential hesitance to implement such a function.

I'd have said the main issue is that people might block my posts by mistake and miss out on the wisdom gleaned from them.

But yes, ignore poster is a horrible idea

Indeed. It would simply be treating the symptoms rather than the problem, rather like covering up gangrene with a plaster so the horrible, creepy, disgusting, obsessive, stalker-like - I mean, unfortunate appearance cannot be seen.

As for that thread I mentioned earlier - yes it is what prompted me to post but as I said, it was one example of many I could have chosen. For example, the rota threads, the Daybreak threads, the posting of Twitter information as though it were whispered in the poster's ear at a private function the previous evening.... My point is that I feel a more heavy-handed approach is needed, with a clear indication as to what is acceptable and what is not. I agree with Pete; 'Jeremy Paxman is currently presenting E24' would be a significant, suitable post. Frankly-odd suggestions and nonsensical speculation about who should present Daybreak are particularly wearisome.

I read another member's thoughts on this earlier, and they agreed that a clearer example needed to be set, with a less lax (in appearance at least) moderation approach needed.

Clearly, this are just my thoughts. Maybe I will feel differently after a few more opinions are voiced. But like I say, this isn't some knee-jerk thing and I hope I don't come across overly critical to the leadership of the site.

I've not trawled all the way back through this thread, so forgive me if I'm raising a topic that's already been discussed. Personally, I've just about managed to get to grips with 'reading around' posts on presenters and rotas (I remember a couple of years back, that was a hugely divisive issue across the Forum, and it's interesting to see the idea of a separate rota forum being floated again); but right now, the one thing that p!sses me off more than any other on the Forum is the repetition of the "I want presenters to stand up" nonsense.

Whenever I see that in a thread, I feel an urge to strangle something small, fluffy and defenseless. If we can find a way to deal with this scourge, no more kittens, puppies or tribbles will have to perish.

You're *so* getting removed from that list of "members that became tolerable" for that image.

Course having said that, I think this post is worth at least 4 dead kittens:

I nearly passed out and collapsed! Maxine Mawhinney was actually standing up at the wall (where they do the sport) at the 6pm TOTH! Shocked Shocked Razz Very Happy

I hope someone recorded it! That has to be the first time they've ever done a standing TOTH and my goodness it looked so much better!

Couldn't you find a picture of some kittens standing up? It would have looked much better.
