You sound like a bunch of children, and behaving like them in some threads too, but that's another story.

Oh Christ...thank goodness we have a grown up to look after us all. Rolling Eyes

When you have put as much time and effort into a site as I have with TV Room...well, nah, even then I won't listen to you.

Cheerio.

The fact remains that you moan about people stealing clips from you although your stealing them from the tv stations and production companies.
So who IS in the wrong first?

I have been advised by a lawyer friend that doing captures or clips comes under the terms of the Video Recordings Act so I place the appropriate copyright messages.

As I stated before, I seek the consent of all involved and usually get the go-ahead because I have been courteous enough to ask and provide a sample before posting any images.

If folks want to grab and post without asking then I have no sympathy for them when they have images or clips swiped and used by other webmasters or receive a letter from the legal department of the broadcaster concerned.

I would rather play safe than have to junk many hundreds of hours of work doing what I do as a hobby...

You're an expert on copyright are you? Don't think so.

Contrary to what 'Big Brother' would have you believe...the Copyright message on TV Room was not merely 'dreamt up'.

I refer you to tcb's latest comments (above).

I can't be bothered responding to this drivel.

Well to be honest you do have to dream every angle of the copyright up to make sure you're covered. If you're just going to moan about your legal message on your site then why are you creating a site. Why don't you set up a site just on legal jargon seen as you seem to be more interested in that than actually the content that's been used from your site.

I don't mind people using images form my site but when I asked whether he had permison from the other sites he denied he'd taken them and they were all his.

Tut tut for copying the BBCi bar style design at the top of the page.

By the looks of it that site's copyright notice is widely copied material too ... and the webmaster needs to learn how to spell!

But aren't all copyright notices the same as each other, just put in different wording?

If he did steal the actual clips, he would have snuck into the BBC transmission suite, taken the tapes home, captured them, not return them, and say "I made this".

BUT... since Mike got these straight off the air, it's fair play. Mike is not saying "I created these idents". It's like Mike recording stuff onto a videotape straight from the TV signal and sharing it with whomever... no one can say that's STEALING is it?

Precisely but mr TV Room seems to be missing that. and picking up on it.

Oh please.
He taped them from the tv - illegal, piracy and it IS copyright.
I'll send an email off to the BBC about how the tv room is using bbc clips which license payers have being paying for and i'll keep complaining until they tell you to remove them. And we'l see how much your copyright notice is worth then sunshine. Nothing thats what it will be worth.

Take the rod out of your a*se! If you aren't interested in the content of The TV Room and a-like then I fail to see why you are here.

The whole issue of copyright law is murky, the websites that display clips aren't totally legal (but is recording things from TV for personal use anyway?), but the sites are actuvely encouraged by the BBC [remmeber Asa's appearance on Liquid News?].

The webmasters wouldn't dream of going to court over stolen clips because it would be far to complicated. However it comes down to netiquette, stealing anything without consent is cheeky, but stealing text is slightly clearer legal wise.

There are a few people here who need to dislodge their heads from their arses Mich. Unfortunately, some are beyond talking to...some are just plain thick. This Forum is riddled with idiots sadly; one of the main reasons why I and many others tend to steer clear.

*Some* people will be interested to learn that a number of the broadcasters are quite happy to see their pres material listed on TV Room.

As for the suggestion that the images on TV Room are "stolen"...just grow up.

As mentioned previously, completely endorse tcb2003's comments...

Copyright/Fair Use legislation is all terribly complicated and ambiguous. If I were ever threatened with court action, I certainly wouldn't be inclined to pursue the matter.

Should we ever see the day that a broadcaster(s) threatens legal action against one/all of the TV pres sites...well, that would be pretty sad.

I don't intend discussing this matter further. However, 'Big Brother' and 'HMS'...do feel free to embarrass yourselves further. Goodnight.

I don't see how exactly I'm embarassing myself. All I'm saying is your argueing over a copyright message being copied. Which em doesn't quite compute in my head so I don't know why we're branching out into the complication of legal matters regarding clips and images.

Listen jackass. Do you read anything before you comment?!?!?!?!?!? Clearly not!!!!!!!!!!! The legal notice was ONE of the things I drew attention to. It was you I think you'll find who chose to ramble on about 'legal matters'. Let's read my post again shall we:

"This is the most blatant example I think I've ever seen. Virtually everything on that site - TEXT AND IMAGES - is pinched from TV Room. Even the COPYRIGHT NOTICE and CONTACT US pages."

Got it???? Managed to 'compute' it yet???? Rolling Eyes
