There is nothing annoys me more than webtheft - this site seems to contain images and text nicked from TVRoom, TVArk and TCB. The front page seems to be a word for word rip-off of the save regional ITV feature from Continuity Booth.

I hate to drive visitors to a website that is based on other people's work, but I'm sure the webmasters concenred will want to check it out.

I would also like to thank Mr. "HTV Best" for bringing this to our attention, I've been hit by 4 images as well to the offending site. Don't worry, this guy won't be too happy when some friends of mine have delivered an interesting package...

Screen grabs, I can see the argument but I still think if someone has gone to the effort of capturing images that they shouldn't be taken without permission.

I can see this point of view emotionally; but according to law the person would simply be stealing stolen images! (Unless they have permission, of course, yadda yadda disclaimer etc Smile )

Right-click disabling, it's better than nothing and makes it a tiny bit trickier for the rip-off merchants.

It's absolutely the worst thing to do. Trying to restrict how you use your browser is guaranteed to irritate the hell out of a lot of people.

Hold down right-click, press return, release right-click, voila. It is annoying when you right-click for the first time on the page and a pathetic box pops up, though.

Alternatively, just click on the View -> Source from the toolbar at the top.

You'll love this site then, apparently he captured them all himself, hmmmm, sure.

I don't mind people using images form my site but when I asked whether he had permison from the other sites he denied he'd taken them and they were all his.

This is the most blatant example I think I've ever seen. Virtually everything on that site - text and images - is pinched from TV Room. Even the Copyright Notice and Contact Us pages.

And where did the TV Room get them from?
Surely not nicked as well? Oh no.

Listen to you all. "Hey this is mine", "No it's mine", "Well actually it's mine" blah blah.

You sound like a bunch of children, and behaving like them in some threads too, but that's another story.

Everyone has to start somewhere - but the site won't become successful if it's just a copy of another.

So what. The legal message is copied. Fair enough, you may have spent hours dreaming it up - big deal. Everyone's legal message is going to say ruffly the same and it's probably the most boring page of a site that no-one reads. I myself have copied TV Home's message before and no-one mentioned it - I couldn't be bothered typing my own and it covered the topic I was making a site about.

Images. An interesting topic. Yes anyone with a site puts in the effort to get all these images looking lovely and ready for their site. But yet again every pres site is going to have the same images. Although taking the image from another site and using it directly may not be the best way to do it, but then the site in question isn't going to become 'world famous' like the site it came from. Is it?

In todays world of Pres websites they all have this similar trend and I know of only one which is completely different from every other.

All pres. sites consit of. Image, Info, Video Link. Correct? Yes in some shape or form that is your pres site. To get picky whoever had the first pres site could effectly call you all websnatchers for stealing the idea.

So what can we learn from my big outburst there. Well. You've got to start somewhere with a Pres site if your a novice. Some pres sites have the content but the presentation of it is dire. Most are all the same and only one I know of is actually different from them all.

Oh Christ...thank goodness we have a grown up to look after us all. Rolling Eyes

When you have put as much time and effort into a site as I have with TV Room...well, nah, even then I won't listen to you.

Cheerio.

The fact remains that you moan about people stealing clips from you although your stealing them from the tv stations and production companies.
So who IS in the wrong first?

Even if you disable right click, I find in IE6 you can still save the image, as when you over the picture, it gives you the option to save!

Many sites go to a lot of trouble to provide rare and interesting material for the enjoyment of everyone interested in TV presentation - if their work is continually ripped off by lazy webthiefs then the likelihood is that some of those webmasters may eventually shut up shop and keep their material to themselves, which would be a shame for all who enjoy the subject - who knows what goodies are yet to be revealed?

Copyright is a hugely complex affair - and this is more a question of 'netiquette' and common decency than the letter of the law (which is very unclear in this area, anyway) - ripping off other people's hard work and research is plain wrong as anyone with any maturity or morals would agree.

You're an expert on copyright are you? Don't think so.

Contrary to what 'Big Brother' would have you believe...the Copyright message on TV Room was not merely 'dreamt up'.

I refer you to tcb's latest comments (above).

I can't be bothered responding to this drivel.
