There is nothing annoys me more than webtheft - this site seems to contain images and text nicked from TVRoom, TVArk and TCB. The front page seems to be a word for word rip-off of the save regional ITV feature from Continuity Booth.
To be honest, I find cries of "Web Theft" to often be rather spurious, when it comes to Pres sites. After all, the people who originally did the grabs "nicked" them off the broadcasters to start with...
BTW, this is from someone who runs a Red Dwarf site. I wouldn't mind if people nicked any grabs I've done from the DVDs, as I've technically nicked them myself; albeit more directly.
Yes it is stuff from TCB! (plus Transdiffusion I think).
It is pretty galling when you spend time researching and writing a feature and then find it virtually ripped off word-for-word into someone else's website and flagged up as their own work!!!

Yes - just to make it clear, I think nicking of text is wrong (unless it's used for purposes of review of the site, of course, or small pieces to quote in FAQs, with the appropriate credit and links). An author has the right to put whatever conditions he/she likes on a work; if they don't want it copied, it shouldn't be copied.
But screengrabs are fair game in my eyes.
(You could of course make the argument that by doing unlicensed screengrabs from TV stuff, and putting them on your site, you waive all right to moans about copyright! I'm not that cruel; I think there *is* a difference. But I could certainly see that point of view.)

Fair point when you do the grabs without asking.
Anybody who uses my grabs has to ask as they are done with full approval and are copyrighted images to the person pictured as well as their organisation.
ISTR somebody used a few captures of JT from Sky News for some mocks without asking a while ago. That was very naughty and I would have had the account closed if they hadn't been fairly good.
Note to all: When Mick's World returns in three weeks, ask before taking caps to use for public viewing. You will generally get an answer giving permission to do so.
There's a prat in Holland who is going to get his account terminated and the guy who runs Justabloke is going to have a complaint filed against him as well for unauthorised use as well...

Absolutely. It's an excellent way of doing things, too.
I also hate sites that disable the right-click function via. some lame javascript. 1 some people right-click to go back or foward; 2 it's incredibly easy to bypass; and (in this case) 3 the material on this site is ripped from another site anyway!
I don't mind people using images form my site but when I asked whether he had permison from the other sites he denied he'd taken them and they were all his.

Tut tut for copying the BBCi bar style design at the top of the page.
Screen grabs, I can see the argument but I still think if someone has gone to the effort of capturing images that they shouldn't be taken without permission. Right-click disabling, it's better than nothing and makes it a tiny bit trickier for the rip-off merchants. Of course, in this case you are right - it is ironic that the webmaster should protect the images that he ripped.

This is the most blatant example I think I've ever seen. Virtually everything on that site - text and images - is pinched from TV Room. Even the Copyright Notice and Contact Us pages.
