Yep, that's how it was recovered, I belive whoever was announcing for ABC Midlands got a tape of their closedown too which was recovered at around the same time as David's I seem to remember reading.
David was good for holding on to his stuff, as we know several otherwised wiped TOTPs he presented were recovered because he recorded and kept them (and BBC4 showed one of them).

According to the schedule I posted a link to above, the last programme was 20 minutes long
One of the rare things to survive on videotape from the time rather than a telerecording (in the UK at least, the US and Germany certainly have a large surviving amount of 60s VT), that's why it looks so good compared to most surviving material from that era.

One of the original team of 5 BBC Look North reporters was Barry Chambers (who sadly died on 1st January 1999). He was (I think) the first BBC North Breakfast Time presenter in 1983 - and can be seen here in December 1983... pic.twitter.com/9LszKYtgee
