I guess that's one of the first appearances of the purple endcaps. It should've still said Yorkshire Television of course, it's the next endcap after that which ditched the logo that changed it, and even then it was Granada Yorkshire. The regional name only completely went when the ITV Productions brand was introduced. There's another error on that endcap - no GR^N^D^ logo.

Old fashioned but practical - it means that it will come back to the correct page should the box be depowered.

There are professional Freesat receivers (basically a domestic receiver with an SDI output) available that have the same control on them, again it means they can be set to a channel and it will always default to that if the box is depowered or requires a reboot.

They were most often used for subtitle monitoring in playout areas.
