Unless I'm mistaken, Peter Salmon was still the controller of BBC1 when the "lifestyle" balloon idents were introduced in early 2000.

Most, if indeed not all, of the regular idents from '98, '99 and 2000 had the balloon digitally inserted, instead of being filmed with the rest of the scenery.

Yes, there was a real balloon used for the initial batch of idents and it was digitally inserted after that.

Technically Internet Explorer is out of date now anyway, as Edge is their new browser and IE isn’t being developed any further.

Although Edge isn't available for all supported versions of Windows. IE is still getting security updates where its OS is still supported.
