is it too much to ask that when a moderator takes an action they clearly signpost the reasons why?

i would have PM-ed a moderator about this, had i known which moderator it was that took the action.

there was a time when moderators used to give an informal comment in a thread they felt could end up breaching t&c, nowadays the padlock is whipped out at the first opportunity BEFORE the thread breaches the t&c - without so much as an explanation.

is it any wonder many members express their disrespect and disdain for the moderators when they act with such arrogance?

i can assure you this does not breach the t&c, and therefore there is no need to lock it.

I presume we're referring to the Benjamin Shatliff thread? I too am confused as to why this thread was closed, one can only assume that a website as popular as the one being discussed is seen as a major threat to this one and thus, any discussion is banned.

LOL!

It's like Neon radio all over again...only slightly more squashed.

I can see the issue over this.

All moderators (including me) are guilty of sometimes closing a thread without a clear explanation. I hate to think that people don't know a thread is no longer deemed suitable to carry on, and in the instances where no explanation has been provided I've been more than happy to let people know via PM if they've contacted me.

But, even I am a little mystified why Ben's thread was suddenly closed - there's certainly a lot more crap that gets left here in this forum (and others I add...) so. Well... *shrugs*

What qualifies anyone to become a mod in the first place?

You get the occasional election on here, but no one says what the basic requirements are?

Is it the abillity to be level headed & fair in disputes?

Do you have to be on line at certain times?

Do you have to have a certain technical requirement on your computer? (Broadband, not dial up!)

Do you have to know 'certain people' to get into a certain position?

( I'm not interested personally myself, I'm just curious why some posters put themselves up & some posters vote for certain people? I ain't fussed who moderates as long as it's done properly & fairly !)

I normally don't get involved in various disputes that happen both on here & on other forums, I just read them, incase there's any important info of note, otherwise I leave them to it!

Haven't seen any advertising inbetween posts, I hope you're not talking about the AdWords at the top of every page. Upload a screenshot of what you're talking about so at least it's more clear.
