It's wierd that a Mod started the thread named "Where have all the TVForum Mods gone?" Laughing

TVF's moderators are all great, but I believe Asa's made a poor choice with Charlie Wells. Charlie (like me, I'll admit) seemed to have the opinion that he was a mod already when he wasn't, now I feel that his appointment to moderator status is unpopular, and he will inevitably run the site like it shouldn't be -- locked threads all over the place, constant reminders of what the forum is for, etc. This thread was, quite frankly, insulting. The TVF mods are allowed to have lives, you know, they don't have to be there whenever you want them.

I far prefer Robert's (itsr) more relaxed style of moderating, and James's tounge-in-cheek witty but firm style of moderating, and (for those on MP247) Gavin's just a great moderator. I do think that many people on the forum will agree with that sentiment, and unless Charlie proves to be any good (let us give him time), then I'd encourage Asa to have a re-think.

not sure if the Laughing implies that you already know this, but Charlie started this thread before becoming a Mod

He's apparently been on holiday, but I've seen quite a few locked threads and he's back tonight I think.

Yes I returned from holiday last night, though I am not responsible for all of the lockings, honest. Prehaps the clue that I was back was in that I had made a few posts and updated my signature pic.

Spending a week away at a youth hostle with others filming was a fun way to escape from the computer. I must admit that this thread has become somewhat ironic now, considering I started it before I was a moderator.

I'm not sure that's entirely right, though. I'm not sure what the terms were for the introcution of Isonstine or Itsrobert, and admittedly Charlie Wells has shown no eagerness to become a moderator. However, it's still a choice to be one (one that can be turned down if the potential moderator feels they cannot handle the responsibility of being regularly available to moderate), and especially in the case of for example MrTomServo who tried so hard to convince us all to allow him to have a shot at moderating, if not willing to put the effort in either temporary moderation should be appointed or that person is not worthy to moderate. Being a moderator is not only about having a purple name, it's the responsibility to be around not just when it happens to suit to browse this forum but as though it were a job -- in normal conditions once or twice a day -- to moderate the forum and respond to Reported Posts. If the current moderators do not feel that they would be able to moderate regualrly and consistently then there are plenty of candidates who would jump at the chance to moderate: it's not as though the current moderators have it badly. I'm may be being unfair here as I've never been a moderator before and therefore cannot entirely vouch for what it's like -- no doubt the well-intentioned ones find it tiring! -- but it seems to be that by many the job is regarded as a glamorous one with moderators quickly overlooking (but just as quickly finding out about) the more mundane aspects. TV Forum's oldest moderators have stayed with TV Forum "through thick and thin", and the new candidates are the naive ones who prefer the idea of a privileged status to the requirement to patrol in some detail every thread of the board, and it is these moderators who are unworthy. This also goes, actually to a greater extent, to Metropol.

I notice somebody has closed what was probably the best thread EVER on here. I wonder who. Oh yes, lock-happy charlie, the crappest mod in the west. (after beth hart of course, nobody is that bad)

I think that is, to be frank, out of order.
