When you try accessing the site, you get an message explaning it's offline because of 'a combination of technical issues and pending a decision about it's future'.
Are there actually any TV pres sites around now which are working perfectly? TV Ark's closed until December, The TV Room's relaunched but with half the images missing, all PP files have disappeared...
Wow, I only put up that page a matter of a few hours ago. Basically, Tripod screwed up something at their data centre and have lost every single account beginning with T, V, W and Z, and that's traditionally been where the TV Whirl content was held. As it seems today they've finally admitted they're probably going to take a week to restore everything from backups, I decided to pull the site in the interim. There's not even a guarantee they'll restore everything, which could mean having to reupload everything from scratch. If I have to do that, I honestly don't know if I'll even bother. Lycos has never been an ideal solution, and what with the recent 'hey everything's open grabs for Youtube' attitude, I'm tempted to just say let the Youtube kiddies put the effort in from now on. Still, gonna wait and see what happens.

As I cant be bothered to rake through the heaps of archive pages to find the original site thread, I'll just tag this on here. I have actually made a small update to the site, putting online 7 new files to cover content over Christmas 2006 on all the main channels, meaning there's actually some working video on there now. I also give a more complete rundown on the new site coming next year. It's also a chance to peek at the upcoming site file format, which I'm currently in the process of recapturing as much as possible in. Everything's been turned up in bitrate, and is using H264/AAC, which should play in the recent versions of RealPlayer and Quicktime (possibly Windows Media Player 11 supports it too; I haven't checked if Microsoft have finally caught up with the format).
I do like TV Whirl, I feel its one of the better pres sites.
Two question...
1) What does Sigma mean?
2) You say you've started recapturing stuff - does this include current CBBC stuff (I reckon there's a lack of it online now)?
Thanks. Sigma is just a greek letter of the alphabet, but doesn't really mean much in this context, it's just there for my own reasons related to the old thread for the site.
As for the capturing, at present I'm focussing on regrabbing the stuff that's already on the site mainly as I'm only going to be at the house with all the tapes for another 3 days). That should include the CBBC content on the site already as I know where that tape is. I haven't began thinking much on the new content yet, though I have been putting aside one or two bits and pieces as I've gone along (CITV Christmas 2001 will be coming for example, as I recorded it then forgot all about it at the time it seems), however its likely I'll be trying to get a lot of current coverage, though that's all dependent on how well I can sort out the reception first (we're noted for serial killers but not for decent reception alas).
And yes, seeing as its so long since I last covered a channel rebrand, I've dug out another stupid revision number to go alongside coverage of the new BBC2 look, going up on the site as it goes out onscreen during the day.
